Fruit salad - you can cut a watermelon in a pretty way and put lots of other fruit in it:

I posted something similar a while back for the bbq I am doing. If you mean EVERYTHING and not relying on your IL's also add to the list

plates
cups-make sure you get the big ones so people can get alot more drinks out of it
napkins
cutlery
bbq set
paper towels
dish towels (cleaning up any spills)
serving bowls for your salads
serving utensils
seasonings-pepper, salt, bbq sauce, mustard, ketchup....

Don't forget beverages - iced tea, lemonade, soda, water, beer and maybe sangria + margaraitas or daquiries.

the most important one ICE, ICE, ICE!!!
Also get a tub style thingy not sure what on earth its called but its for putting drinks in it for outside. Easier for people to get drinks.
Or use coolers-the big ones.
