Ladies, What did you enjoy best about your Baby Shower??

My MOH is my best friend in the whole world and she's expecting about 1.5 months after the wedding. Prior to this pregnancy she had 3 miscarriages in just 2 years. For all she has done for me throughout the years (we're cousins) I want to throw her the best baby shower ever!!!! They have waited so long for this child and have gone through so much, I really, really want to put some effort into her shower. I want to get started soon, since the only available weekend for her shower is the weekend after we return from the HM

What did you guys enjoy best about your shower?? What made it special, unforgettable???? Location, games, favors, etc???

The best thing about my shower was all my little guests! My SIL made a point of inviting all the children (ages 3 months and up). It was really fun having them help me open presents.

my sister put lots of cute baby clothes on a clothesline and hung it up in the room. She also put the words 'BABY [MY LAST NAME}' on paper throughout the clothesline.

Here's how she did the lettering..she just cut up a plastic colored tablecloth.

I've also heard the babyfood tasting game is fun. WE didnt do that though, but its a cute idea...

Some creative gifts I got:

A red wagon filled with goodies (clothes, lotions, diapers, etc etc.)
A big basket filled with the clothesline idea. That was another clothesline. So it was a brown wicker basket, with 'laundry' on the clothesline. adorable.

they don't know the sex yet, but they are hoping to find out next month!!! she and i are so close - we're the only two female cousins in a sea of italian men!!!! i really want to do something special for her - neither future grandmother is really 'into' the baby yet - not sure if it's fear from the other miscarriages or just the italian superstitutions!!!! she's also the first one of our generation who's local who is having a baby, so i really want to make a big hoop-la out of it!!!

AWEEEE thats SOO NICE that youre making a big HOOP-LA out of it. I FEEL YOUR LOVE !!!!

Yep, its an Italian superstition I think. My mom is the same. She gets excited, but she hates to see so much planning 'before the time'...

I'll help you think of more ideas because you got me all excited for you and her !

When is it again?

Another idea that you might want to do:
You can make 'THank you's' for her on the computer (or buy them), so they are all done for her (BIG CHORE OUT OF THE WAY!) and either you can attach them to the favors and give them to people as they go (and she wont have to do thank you's) OR you can give them to her, to add a little personalization to each peron, ready to be written. (Thats what my sister did for me, I was SOOOO THANKFUL, I just had to write them!)

OF course, have someone there to write WHO gavw WHAT as she opens the gifts. Make sure no one writes ON the boxes. They did that at my bridal shower and now I cant return those items

Either put a sticky in the card with what that person gave her, or write it in the card, if she doesnt mind that. Thats another big chore, lol.

love your ideas!!!! as of now, the shower is schedule for november 22. i'm not coming back from the HM until 11/10 and then have a business trip from 11/12-11/14 (yes - my boss is sending me away 2 days after i return from HM - gotta love corporate america!!!!!) i'm going to try and get as much stuff done early as possible, so i'm not a maniac the week before!!!!!

I also did a clothes line for the shower i threw for my friend. i did it over a doorway. I came up with a theme 'Think Pink' (she is adopting a girl) and everything matched that theme. the clothes on the line were pink and white, the plates, even the toothpicks for the apps were pink. I did the baby food tasting game too.
I also got her a beautiful scrapbook and had everyone write Motherly Advise on some pages, her gifts were recorded on another page and I left some pages for photos and her own memories.


I think the most important part of any shower is to make sure that the people your cousin loves and that love her back are there. I think just the fact that you are celebrating this special time with her is what is sooo special.

michele - secretly i am hoping she has a girl because i love the 'think pink' slogan!!! not sure of a cute slogan for a boy, but i'm sure there is one out there!!!

was thinking of somehow incorporating a sports theme if it's a boy - they are HUGE sports fan!!

I loved the whole shower but a really, really nice thing was they had a 'Reading Well' - asked everyone to bring a baby book for our library. I got a ton of baby books, they are all so cute.

ETA: I'm so happy for your friend, that's so wonderful that they were able to finally have a baby after such heartbreak. I hope all goes well with her delivery.

i loved that there were many friends there,,that offset the fact that many of my family members WERE NOT THERE ( gee doesnt that sound familiar??)
food was great- set up as a buffet.,.

some of the littlekiddies were there so they helped opening up presents..,..my best friend wrote down who gave what....

and my sil/MIL threw the party...and had thank yous that they handed out so people wrote their name and address on it for me!

no games..,,no time for them at our party. LOTS of gifts to open and people spent a lot of time schmoozing and eating

Oh, I also made a CD of songs to play at the shower that focused on parent/child, girls, her name Caroline, stuff like that. Then I gave the CD to her at the end of the shower.

Stef made the invites for me. Maybe she has some good blue ideas.

I had a reading well also......it was wonderful.........It's also nice to have a book that goes around where everyone writes a message to the baby..........
