Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

Hi Ladies - my Fiancee & I are in the throws of our final photographer decision. Can you help us??

We have a small wedding (about 80 people or so) and are trying to decide if 2 photographers are too much, would it seem too much like overkill? Should we just save our $$ and go with a place that only does one photographer? the vendors we've met with say two not look crazy -
I'd like your opinion PLEASE!

Thank you!

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

I'm having about 100 people and I have a second photographer coming. I'm a photo freak, so that was important to me. If you feel that it's important to you go for it! You don't get a redo on photos!

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

We had a little over 100 people and 1 photographer and his assistant. This photographer was all over the place and I'm pretty confident that he got a lot of pictures! We also had table cameras and a lot of guests took pictures of us. In addition, you're going to have guests with their own cameras who will want to give you copies of their photos. Personally, I think one photographer will be enough for less than 100 people.

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

I am having aroud 80 and I am having one photographer..I am going by past weddings that I have been too..one photographer has been great! They are taking pictures, your guests are taking pictures with their cameras AND your disposables..you end up with a zillion pictures. with a photograpehr, they give you a ton of proofs and its tough Ive n heard to pick the pictures you wnat in yoru album..its hard to narrow it down..what are you going to do with two photographers...
Also when I looked at my Photographers work..its just him and he does sucha nice job..I had to go with it. BUt its definately a personal decision..alot of people want too and thats great if it works for them. I just thik one is just perfect for a smaller wedding.

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

Thanks! You guys have helped! I think we'll go with one - There are so many cool vendors out there it's hard to decide. But this is the one thing (as with most of you) that we don't want to make a bad decision on. We want great pictures - but I think one photographer will be enough to get used to - i'm not a big one for posing/getting my picture taken.

Any other comments are appreciated - but you guys have been great!

I had over 200 at my wedding. I found one photographer and one assistant to be enough.

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

Wow - thanks for the replies guys!

You've helped to confirm my decision for one - picking the right photographer has been a little nerve-racking, at least for me.

I guess when you click with a place you know. And the photographers are part of the package (regardless of number), as i can see here from the postings. It's nice to know I won't be completely crazy, should i change my mind!!

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

I have to say that the amount of guests you have shouldn't determine your photographer...

I had 150 guests, but the photographers didn't focus on them...they focused on us and our family...

I would focus on the work of the 2 studios that you are looking at...with 2 you can get the candid shots, b/c the 2nd photog doesn't have to make sure they get the basic shots...

but I will say 1 great photog is better than 2 mediocre photogs...just make sure you make your decision based on the work...not on the number of guests...

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

I agree with Erica- the number of guests has very little to do with the number of photos. It all depends on the TYPE of photos you want to capture your day. One photographer cannot do all of the traditional posed and candid shots. It is just not possible to take a family formal at the same time take a photo of a someone off to the side sitting or laughing. It is impossible to capture all of the moments with only one photographer- and that is okay for some people.
Also, photos are one area that I believe should not be on the budget-cutting list. They will outlast us all and our great grandchildren will be looking at them.
So you need to decide if you want those 'off to the side' moments captures as well as the big ones.
Erica is also right- 2 not great photographers are still not good though. You need 2 high-quality, talented photographers.

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

We had 185 and it never occured to us to have 2 photographers - BIG mistake.

If you're into photos, spend as much of your budget as you can. We didn't and really regret it - in fact we are redoing a lot of poses with a different photographer

Re: Poll: Small wedding - 1 photographer or 2?

i would say one would do... were having around 100 and only using one, if you want 2 VIP studios gives you 2 for the price of 1
