My July5th wedding review...(long)...now with added vendor reviews
Hi everyone - I just wanted to say thank you for all the help during the planning process. Although I didn't post that much, I still learned a lot from you girls and my questions were always answered immediately. Now for my review...Gurney's Inn - we chose Gurney's b/c we love Montauk and wanted a wedding that was 'different'. It really is a beautiful place and we will continue to vacation there in the summers. Now, I just read 6/21/03 (Dawn) review and all the problems she encountered with the maitre'd. I had similar problems in the the year and a half I was planning, but about two weeks before the wedding, everything went wonderful. I may have been a pain in the a** but I knew what I wanted and made them well aware of what I expected from them.
Anyway, the day was beautiful. Clear, sunny skies, no humidity, ect. My ceremony was on the beach and it was breathtaking - I was hesitant about doing the ceremony in the actual sand but looking back, I wouldn't have changed a thing. It was such a spritual experience and totally fit our personalities! For anyone who is considering getting married on a beach - do it!!! It is something you will not regret - just don't wear shoes :)
Cocktail hour was outside on a deck overlooking the ocean - again this was a perfect choice! Reception was inside and again was magical! Overall, I am very happy with my decision to get married at Gurney's. Yes, the man I dealt with was difficult at times, but if you have the mind frame that it's your wedding and you are doing it your way, you should have no problems.
My vendor reviews are next...
All my vendors were great so I am not going to rate them. I spent a lot of time researching them and it paid off. I would recommend almost everyone to future brides!
DJ - Spin Around Sound
Tom and James were awesome. Played everything I wanted, nothing I didn't want. Dance floor was packed all night. Definitely check them out!
Florist - KimJon Designs in Southampton
Kim is AMAZING!!! She is truly an artist and loves what she does. She is very passionate about flowers and her taste in decorating is impeccable. She also went above and beyond her duties as a florist often helping me as a nervous, frusturated bride to be.
Video - Bellarino
I don't have the video yet but Kate and Phil were great during the wedding. Unobtrusive, yet I know they caught everything! Their prices are great too!
Photography - family friend so I won't review him.
Invitations and all other stationary -
Rebecca from Favorite Things in Nesconset.
Rebecca was great. She helped me so much during my wedding planning. I ordered everything from her (invitations, menus, programs, seating cards, ect). Everything came out great. She was so patient with me and worked so hard to please me!!! Also her prices are very good - she gives a discount to liweddings brides!
Dress - Wedding Center of Commack
Not very friendly and kind of annoying. I wouldn't recommend ordering from them. I did it b/c I found my dress somewhere else but they had it for cheaper so I ordered it. I did take it to a private seamstress for alterations b/c I heard nightmare stories about their seamstress.
Veil - Glamgal designs.com
I had a big problem with them but everything worked out in the end. I didn't have my veil until 2 days before the wedding but it turned out to be beautiful!! Order your veil way in advance if your going to use them!
Hair and Makeup - Salon at Gurney's Inn
Sheila and Alba were great - but I had a very simple updo so it wasn't that hard. The other people that work there are not good though. Overall, it was a positive experience.
Honeymoon - Hyatt in Aruba
OMG - Aruba is paradise and the Hyatt is the place to stay. We went to the other hotels to compare them and in my opinion, the Hyatt was the most elegant. Yes, you don't have big balconies in your room, but we spent no time in our room anyway. The Hyatt combines elegance with a caribbean flair - a little more expensive than the other resorts but well worth it! We used In and Out Travel to book the trip - they were awesome! We had to cut the trip short due to a family illness and they were so accomodating! If you haven't booked your honeymoon yet, call them!
I think that's it! If anyone has any questions, fm me! Take care!

Oooh. I'm so jealous. I REALLY wanted a beach wedding, but with FILs, if we don't get married in a church, the world will collapse. And FH and I LOVE Montauk too. Your wedding would have been our ideal setting.
Glad you enjoyed it. Congrats! Can't wait to see pics!

I am staying at the Hyatt in Aruba for my honeymoon in Oct. Did you go out at night to places? If so, where? I heard Aruba is amazing! I am happy we chose the Hyatt!
