Dead set against........
Throwing the bouquet and garter. Jt and I just feel like it will interfere with the party and take too much time away from dancing, etc. My mother and my sister are SHOCKED and cannot believe that we are not doing this. Did anyone else leave it out?

We are leaving it out. Instead we are presenting them to the winner of the anniversary dance.

Re: Dead set against........
we did. well, I still had hubby take off my garter. Then we went into the Anniversary Dance. My aunt/uncle were the longest married couple, so my aunt got the throw away bouquet, and uncle got the garter.
Then, my uncle had to put the garter on my aunt. They LOVED it. It was a little different.

Re: Dead set against........
Me too!! My FI have decided to do the anniversary dance instead of the bouquet/garter toss. I hated the bouquet toss when I was single, and so do all of our single friends. I'm looking forward to it - it's going to be a surprise for most people.

Re: Dead set against........
i have stronger feelings against them than just taking away from the party (however, out of respect for those who are doing them, i will not vent my reasons here). we are doing the anniversary dance instead and i will present my bouquet to the couple married the longest.

Re: Dead set against........
we haven't even discussed it yet - sorry.but i've been to a lot of weddings lately where they didn't do it. i even forgot it was the custom, i was getting so used to not seeing it.
Remember, above all else, it is your weding - you do what you want - no matter what others tell you you are SUPPOSED to do!
they had their chance - this is your's!

Re: Dead set against........
We did the anniversary dance as well. Actually we got a lot of great comments on that and no one even mentioned that we did not do the garter/toss. We gave the couple the garter, bouquet and a bottle of champagne.

Re: Dead set against........
we did. well John still took off my garter. John's aunt/uncle were the longest married couple, so his aunt got the throw away bouquet, and uncle got the garter. Then, his uncle had to put the garter on his aunt. They LOVED it. It was the hit of my wedding since they were married 55 yrs & were 80 yrs old!
first john took off my garter
then we did anniversary dance, they were the last couple dancing!
then i handed her my bo-k, john handed him the garter & look, he put it on her!!

We are not doing it either. We feel it takes away to much time from the wedding.

Re: Dead set against........
I'm skipping both - don't like either and never did. I have been to quite a few weddings in the past few years and not one of them did either. I think it's a tradition worth letting die. IMO, of course.

Re: Dead set against........
We didn't do anything of that nature. The anniversary dance was out because my parents are divorced and only my father is remarried, so I didn't want to make my mom uncomfortable. We just partied on and no one noticed.

Re: Dead set against........
We won't be doing it either. I don't have many single friends, and it's some what humiliating to single them out !The anniversary dance sounds like a nice alternative. Don't let anyone pressure you!

Re: Dead set against........
We didn't do the garter/bouquet thing. (We are in our mid-thirties & no one we know wants to go up to catch these things.)I dont think anyone noticed. My mother still comments about how it was nice that the party was not interupted with these events.
We did do the anniversary dance and it went over really well. We bought the winning couple a prize.
