Birth control/Period question...sorry if TMI
Since I don't want to get my period for my wedding or honeymoon I started taking my pills (LoEstrin FE) continuously, meaning I don't take the 7 placebo pills, I start a new pack right away. This is supposed to prevent you from getting your period. Well, last night I had awful cramps and I woke up this morning with my good 'ol period.
Has this 'method' worked for anyone before or does it take awhile??

Good question. I'd like to know the answer myself since I've never tried it. I take Loestrin also.

I worked perfectly for me. However, I take Ortho-Novum so it could be the pill. I would talk with your doctor about this. It doesn't sound right.

Re: Birth control/Period question...sorry if TMI
I think you are only supposed to do this for the one-time that you don't want to get your period. For example, if you want to prevent your period from coming and are getting married this next weekend and your pill ended this past weekend, you should keep taking the pill (start a new pack) this whole week. This is supposed to delay the period. I don't think you are supposed to do this ahead of time. That might really mess up your cycle. By starting a new pack right away, you are supposed to prevent the period for the month altogether or possibly delay it. You should not, however, try it without consulting your doctor. It won't work with some pills depending on the type/strenghth of the hormones.

funny... i just asked my doctor about this this morning. she said that it is normal for you to spot and get some cramping during the first week of the new pack. however, she didn't say anything about getting your full-blown period. you may want to call your doctor b/c i'm not sure about the specifics with your birth control pill (i use ortho-tricyclen so my dr's comments were based on that.)

Re: Birth control/Period question...sorry if TMI
twice i did this - skipped the placebo week because i didn't want my period that week. well - it worked in that i didn't get my period the week i didn't want to - but then the next week i got it for 15 straight days!!!!!! this happened both times i tried to monkey around with my period.everybody's body is different - what works for someone else may not work for you. according to my OB/GYN the reason why it happened this way for me was that by skipping the placebo week my body had too many hormones in it and the 15 day period was nature's way of rectifying the situation.

I did this, and it worked great. But I started 2 months in advance b/c my doc told me the 1st month may not work quite how I like. I think she was right, but by the 2nd month I was good to go

When I was on the pill.....I tried to skip it one month. It backfired and I had my period for 2 1/2 weeks straight.
I've had my period since age 11 and have never missed a month. At least I'll know when I'm pregnant.

My Gyno told me to do that also to avoid getting my period on vacation...the SAME exact thing happened to me....except I ended up bleeding for the entire month!

Normally it should work with a little spotting and then the next month you get VERY bad cramps before you're period. How many days have you had your period since you started the new pack? You may need a day or two for your body to get adjusted to it since you have a pretty low dosage pill (I've been on the pill for 11 years and I've tried almost every brand out there). If you're bleeding heavily for more than 3 days, I'd call your gyno.

Yup! It didn't work for me because I got my friend while I was on my honeymoon!
I agree with trying to do it for 2 months since it didn't work for me for the first month! I guess everyone is different though.

Re: Birth control/Period question...sorry if TMI
I have done it on Loestrin and it worked fine. But my doctor did say that some people spot. The first time I did it (not on Loestrin, but on Desogen) I didn't get my period, but I had all the symptoms
