Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

We didn't want the macarena, chicken dance, mariah carey, whitney houston, rap, Boy bands/Bubble gum type music. We also told them no requests from this list which they adhered to.

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

It depends on what you like. I some of the things I had on my 'DO NOT Play list':
hokey pokey
Hand ups
Rap, Country songs
Song like that involve things - the macerena - things like that.

My DJ gave me a huge list of song and I had to circle the ones I wanted to hear. I also met with him, I told him the age group: late 20's early 30's and 50 yr old. So play some 50's, 60's 70's disco, techno. I had them play the electric slide and the Taratella ( I am Italian).

I also told him ABSOLUTELY No Requests from anyone just me and the groom - no friends and/or family.
Good luck!

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

I didn't have so much of a do not play list, mainly because I've always found it annoying when I request songs from a dj and they don't play it. The only song I did ban was the Macarena. I told the dj that if anyone requests it, they should be removed from the room immediately and banned from the reception.

I should think of a list.

Mariah Carey is WAAY out
Anything even closely resembling hip-hop or rap is out
Celion Dion
That song with Michelle Branch and Santana.. GOD HELP Me NO!!! (I like them both, just hate that song)
I'll have to think of more.

Macarena I'm not offended to, too much

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

same as ddune23 & denice, except we are having country songs b/c FH likes country.

We ARE having the Time Warp & the Dollar Wine song... that's it.

No grunge, no hard core Rap or hip hop, no Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Diana Ross, Elton John or any of those other screechy divas.

Um, also no requests..... we do not want our guests to 'take over' our DJ by making requests for songs we don't want to hear. I know it sounds mean, but too friggin bad, it's not their wedding.

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

My D.J. (Spin Around Sound) doesn't play any of the cheesy wedding songs, so that's one of the reasons I hired him!
If I had to do a 'Do Not Play' list, it'd be all the stuff that was already mentioned, plus 'Hot Hot Hot' and also 'Celebrate' by Kool and the Gang. Ew!!!!!!!

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

Yabbobaby....no songs AFTER 1990?Was that a mis-type?

I actually like alot of those songs. I have to have the Electric Slide since me and my college friends used to do it all the time in college. But no macarena. YMCA...eh...I can take it or leave it. I mean if they play it I can take a pee break at that time or just walk outside. I love Hands Up, I Love 'Shook me all night long', I like Disco and so does FH. He also loves Garth Brooks, 50's, 60's music, loves Elvis so some of his stuff, too.

I am not a big Shake it up Baby fan but I don't mind it played. I don't know. I would rather not hear 'Danny Boy' but if my FFIL or a relative requests it (no friend would dare, thank God) I am not going to tell DJ not to play it. Plus there's going to be some irish music...no reels or jigs but there's a few pieces that have specific dances that go along with them that I know FH's side would want to have and I don't mind at all....I'll probably dance to them myself But only one or two of those. Last Dance by Donna Summer is a definte, Chicken Dance - again I'll go on a pee break..hee hee.

I am not a big Whitney, Celine, Britney or Mariah fan myself, I'll take Celine though for maybe 1 song and possibly Whitney, but I can't think of any Mariah or Britney songs I'd want to hear. I'm more concerned with getting the DJ the irish songs we want to have/need to have than what *not* to play.

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

so far all we thought of is no rap, no organized dancing, no requests, no salsa type music.

we also plan on making sure absolutly no who let the dogs out.

3 years ago at our friends wedding the DJ thought it would be cute to change the words to who let the bikers out (it was one of our biker friends weddings) so i told FI under no way will we have that song played at our wedding.

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

we all have different tastes in music...so what one person wants or doesn't want...doesn't mean another person could feel the same way...

the reason behind no songs after 1990 is b/c I had an older crowd at the wedding....and I went to a wedding 3 weeks before...and they started playing club music...I didn't like that...i wanted to make sure that my 75 year old aunt would want to dance the whole night...

my old roommate gave me a lot of slack when she saw my music list...but after the wedding she apologized and raved about the music

YOU know your guests...

Re: Please post your 'do not play' lists

Definitly out are:
Macarena
Electric Slide
Chicken Dance
Hands Up
The Train Song

Anything Lame is out.
No boy band junk. I am also going to tell the DJ to take NO requests from the children at our wedding. I trust the older folks, but since we are having a lot of kids, I don't want any britney, Christina, Justin or American idol stuff happening. I don't want our wedding turning into a club.
