Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
If you're paying, then no one should tell you that you have to elope! Have a wedding with nearest and dearest not second cousin steves sister in laws mothers brotheres too.Invite who you want and if they don't want to come because you were rude not to invite everyone, then poo on them

Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
if they absoultely have to have certain people there - you should just tell them that you two can only pay for certain guests and if anyone else HAS to be invited, they will have to give some additional money. let them know that it is financially impossible for you to have a huge affair, but you are willing to work with them!

Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
I agree - if you are paying for it yourselves (or most of it) then you are not obligated to invite anyone. FMIL is still asking me to invite more people, however she is not laying out a DIME towards anything, so I just keep telling her no. I think that's up there with bringing a guest when you weren't told you could. JMO.

Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
simple, make your budget up, figuring how many people you can afford, subtract you and Fh's friends... then take that number divide by 2, and tell both sets of parents thats how many people you are paying for, and they will have to cover ANYONE over that.....very simple

Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
We are only inviting about 105 people to the reception and many people have commented on why we are doing that. To be honest it has nothing to do with money-that's all the people we care to invite (even some we don't really care much about). It's your wedding-do what you want and what you can afford!

Re: smaller guest list compared to other family weddings
I'm having a smaller wedding than my brothers did. My fiance and I are paying for it ourselves. We are guaranteeing 90 people, pretty small compared to other weddings. I wouldn't worry about it. it's your big day and you are paying for it. you don't want to be in debt for 5 hours of your life!
