I booked my church today . . . Videographer/church concerns . . .
I booked my church today (Infant Jesus - Port Jefferson). I am a little concerned about the rules for videographers:During procession and recession ONLY, hand held camera without light is allowed along the side aisles. During he ceremony, the videographer is only allowed to tape from the choir loft (above in rear) with the provided lighting only.
Has anyone ever had or having this experience with their church? Did it or do you think it will work out okay? I am a little concerned.
Also, no rose petals OR aisle Runners allowed (since they have a carpeted Aisle)

Re: I booked my church today . . . Videographer/church concerns . . .
you know, the rules of my church say no flower petals either. Maybe because it may stain? I was thinking of getting silk and having someone pick them up after? As far as the videographer & photography, I'm going to double check, but I think it said they cannot be on during the mass? I'm only having a ceremony so I should be safe.

Re: I booked my church today . . . Videographer/church concerns . . .
the reason for no flower petals is because it is a liability (someone could slip). As far as the photography/videography is concerned, a lot of the traditional churches have these rules. If you have not yet booked a photographer/videographer, mention this to them when meeting & ask if they have samples of similar work (in unlight or restricted conditions.)
I have seen a couple and they came out fine, but it does depend on the interior of the church.
Good Luck.

this may sound dumb, but what else would someone use if they can't use flower petals?

Our church has similar restrictions. We decided against a flower girl (for many reasons) but that was the final straw. They have a flower basket that carries full flowers & they do not drop any while they walk down the aisle.
I have heard that some people theow confetti, but the churches get pretty mad at that as well.
As far as the photo/video is concerned, my church will allow light, but not the umbrella flash set-up for the photographer, only a single camera flash. Same for video. Also, they are not permitted to come within 5 pews from the altar, and are never permitted to approach it. Luckily, my videogrpaher has a wicked zoom lens, so I will at least have decent video of the vows, unity candle, etc.
I have instructed my photographer to have a 'photojournalistc' style & get interesting shots of family & friends, places in the church & such. The video is digital format, so if there is a video shot I like, I can have it duplicated into a photograph.
I hope my info helps you...if you need anything more, FM me.
Good luck.

Re: I booked my church today . . . Videographer/church concerns . . .
i think all churches have similar rules. mine also does not allow runners as the church is carpeted. out of respect, photographers and videographers are NEVER allowed to step foot onto the altar. as for the no throwing of stuff - i believe it's a liability issue, plus my church has a wedding every hour and a half on saturday's and i would be pi$$ed if my ceremony started late because they were cleaning up from the ceremony before.Welcome New Vendors
