was just thinking (black out weddings)

Did anyone's wedding get affected by the blackout? Not too many Thur. night weddings I guess. But how about those on Fri?

Do halls have generators? I never thought to ask that question!

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

I was wondering all about that too...I'm sure some places do have generators...but I'm sure there had to be problems somewhere.

I hope that all went well for yesterday's brides...

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

I work in rockefeller center (spent thursday night in the office with fiance. Actually kinda romantic in a werid way) and we got electricity around 9am.

Long Island was up I think my 10am the latest. I think if anyone had a friday morning wedding they may have had issues with catering.. but Friday night should have been fine.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

A FRIEND OF A FRIEND HAD HER WEDDING ON THURSDAY .. THE LIGHTS WENT OUT DURING THE CEREMONY. THE HALL HAD A GENERATOR , SO THE WEDDING WENT ON WITHOUT AC. THE BRIDE CREID THROUGH IT ALL. EVERYONE ALTHOUGH HOT, STILL MANAGED TO HAVE A GREAT TIME. IT EVEN MADE CHANNEL 2 NEWS. THEY INTERVIEWED THE BRIDE, GROOM AND BEST MAN AND SOME OF THE GUESTS...

MOST OF US JUST PRAY FOR A BEAUTIFUL. NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D HAVE TO PRAY FOR POWER TO STAY ON.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

Molly, was that the Irish couple whose wedding was in Coney Island? They had such a great attitude and it looked that they had a great time regardless. Good for them. I love to see people who can make the best out of a bad situation.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

A friend who is a florist had to get up at 4:30 am yesterday to get all new flowers for 2 weddings. The flowers are kept refrigerated and everything died because they're in Westchester and didn't get the power back until late Fri afternoon. Everyone thinks about the food spoiling at catering halls, which is the most important concern, but I'm sure there were several weekend brides who didn't get the exact flowers they wanted.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

A girl I work with was invited to a wedding on Thursday at Crest Hollow C.C. (or Fox Hollow?? can't remember) but couldn't go because she didn't have enough gas in her car (was going to fill up on the way down but of course that wasn't possible). However she did call the bride, who said taht when it all happened she called the reception place and they said they had their own generators so they could still ahve the wedding. I think the ceremony was there too but my friend couldn't go so she doesn't know how it all turned out yet.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

Xelindrya
I work near Rock Center. I drove in on Thursday actually, I normally don't but I slept in a bit that morning and missed my train. I actually got home within 1 1/2 hours that night. I live in the Bronx and the person I drove back with knew a bunch of 'short cuts' to get us to the Bronx without being on major roads that had alot of backups.

How did you get home on Friday? Wehen did the LIRR come back up? Glad you are OK

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

MAYBRIDE, WE ARE PROBABLY TALKING ABOUT THE SAME COUPLE.YES THEY WERE IRISH BUT THE WEDDING RECEPTION WAS IN BAYRIDGE AT THE 'TOP OF THE CRESCENT'. THEY MANAGED TO KEEP THEIR SPIRITS UP, BUT EVERYTHING THAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG, WENT WRONG.

COULD YOU IMAGINE THE LIGHTS GOING OUT IN THE CHURCH AS SOON AS THE PRIEST SAID'YOU MAY KISS THE BRIDE'???? THINGS JUST WENT DOWN HILL FROM THERE.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

That is so funny. The TV network painted such a different picture. I'm sorry about being wrong with the location but they did say some of the guests worked in construction and ran for generators. Thank God for small miracles.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

When I was married last year (8-2-02) we lost power for like a second, there was a terrible storm. Thank goodness the generator kicked right in. Most of my guests didn't even know the power went out. The only problem was the AC was not on full power, all else was fine w/ the band, food, etc. By the time the wedding was over, the power was restored.

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

I went to a wedding on Friday that was kind of affected. I felt so bad for the bride. When it first happened on Thursday she was very upset from what I hearwhich started making her physically sick. Since the wedding was in Newark, the reception hall was only affected for 4 hours - so that calmed everyone's fears about food spoilage. Her flowers looked gorgeous so I doubt they were affected.

But the bride lives in SI and they gained and then re-lost power - so no AC or hairdryers. The bride and BM's were scrambling trying to find a place that had power to get their hair done. They were sweating from the heat and running around - so makeup application wasn't the easiest either. Then they were swelling from the heat that no one's dress was fitting right. The bride made them unzip her dress slightly and when they re-zipped it it ripped.

I know it affected some people who needed to get to the wedding (out of towners) so she had some cancellations.

Then to boot I hear someone stole a relative's car during the ceremony which had all the brides stuff in it including id and cc's as well as the parents and brother of the brides overnight bags. How sad! (they didn't tell the bride until the next day). There were a couple other horrible things that happened as well.

I felt so bad but the reception was wonderful and the bride and groom looked so in love and gorgeous. It was a great wedding after all.

I also heard from a guest who was suppose to go to another wedding in Brooklyn that day that she the couple had to reschedule her wedding to a day in October. Can you imagine?

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

Yes that is true.. Luckily 2 people guys had generators from their jobs. Imagine the hall didn't? So they had 2 generators, 1 for the band, and 1 for the lights. No air cond., so it was so hot, My friend said some guest went home and changed into shorts!!! However the stairs were supposedly so dark that people were tripping all over the place. But people still said they had a great time under the circumstances becasue they surely did make the most of it. Anyway, at least they were still able to have their wedding!!!

Re: was just thinking (black out weddings)

actually we were at a wedding in Seattle this weekend that was affected by the black-out. Some of the guests coming from NY didn't make it because of the airport closures and delays. Others had to take trains/buses to DC to get on flights to Seattle.

(the couple currently lives in NY)
