Close to getting an accepted offer...Updated with news

We've been bidding on a house for the last week, trying to come up with an accepted offer. Well as of now we're only about $3,000 apart and it looks like by tomorrow we'll have an accepted offer. We're trying not to get our hopes up because there's still a lot that could go wrong, especially a bad engineer's report. But it's really exciting.

Thanks everyone. Yes this is the one in Bethpage. We really like the house. It's not our dream house, but it's a start.

I should have an answer today as to whether or not we have the deal. We're less than $3,000 apart so if the homeowner's not willing to move down I'm going to tell our agent that he has to cut his commission to make this deal because we're not moving up anymore. Hopefully by the time I come home from work I'll be able to post some more good news!!

Good luck with our offer but I have to say I don't think it is fair to ask your broker to take a cut. Being in the real estate industry myself (not residential though) it always bothers me when people think b/c it is a commission it should get cut. Sorry, just a pet peeve b/c commission is my livelihood!

Funny I use to be in the real estate industry also and I had to cut my commission many times in order to close a deal.

I've already gone up way more than I wanted to. If my agent wants to make his $5,000, he'll have to sacrifice about $650. To me that should be worth it for him. If he doesn't do it, the deal is over and he loses us as buyers. What choice would you make?

We're told that we'll have an answer tomorrow. They're presenting our offer tomorrow night and our realtor will call us to let us know. Thanks for thinking of me!!

Nope, still no news. They keep trying to get us to go up, but we're not budging. Basically now they want us to come up the $3,000, have an engineering report done in 48 hours and be in contract by Friday. Now they want to rush. They sat on our offer for over a week and now they want us to jump through hoops to accomodate them? I told the realtor we're not moving on our number, if they accept our offer today we'll have an engineer there by the end of the week, and we'll go to contract by the middle of next week. That's the best that we're willing to do.

Thanks for thinking of me though. I hope to know by tomorrow (I know I've said that already so you can only imagine how frustrated I am).
