Is it possible that my cat is sad because my other one died?

It's been a week since the other one was put down and I think my other cat is depressed. He hasn't been eating really and all he does is cry and sleep. I think he's depressed But then again, I could be crazy.

my sister's cat died while staying at our house and my cat was sad for quite some time.....
and when FH's cat died, the other cat was very different...

Aw! I'm sorry Rachel about your cat. I had to putone of mine to sleep about 2 months ago and I am still so heartbroken. Your cat might have sensed that your other cat was sick but she can definitely be sad about the other one not being around. If she continues to not eat, call your vet, they may be able to give you some advice.

ETA: my other cat cries alot at night over seemingly nothing and follows me around sometimes and she was the more independent of my two - they all deal with it differently

i think it maybe cause its sad.. when we lost our parakeet the cockatiel seemed to know something was wrong

Your other cat probably misses him. Cats do sense these things.
This happened to my sisters cat. She had 2, and one had to be put to sleep, and the other would not stop crying/meowing. He was so sad, so she went out and got another cat, and that solved the problem.

Have you thought about getting a kitten/or another cat??

it's definitely possible. but think twice about getting a kitten. i remember reading about it online, when one cat passes, and the other cat is lonely. i can't remember if i read that you should get a cat similar in maturity, or you should get a kitten. your current cat will either be happy with a new friend or feel threatened. do some research online before you get a kitten and then find out your current cat is even more upset!

btw, when i lost my beloved Red last november, my tubby Charlie was devastated. i think he still misses Red. but we got ZuZu from the pound in january, and they are friendly, even sometimes chasing each other around the backyard. Charlie misses Red, but is ZuZu's big brother now.

rachel - tom's mother has 5 cats now, so if you ever want to adopt one of them, i'm sure he'd be happy to arrange something for you!!

I really love my moms cats, but they do get annoying. especially when they want to come in my room early in the morning. they never leave when Im going to work so I have to search all over my room to get them out
