Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
We want to have a Sat afternoon or Sun afternoon winter '04 wedding approx 100-110people, I want to keep the reception at around $100pp before tax and grat. I was thinking of places like the Milleridge or Westbury Manor however FH wants to take our pics in Central Park thats all he keeps mentioning. Do you think its doable to drive from Bklyn to Manhattan then take pics and then to LI for reception, or should I try to see if I can find a reception place in Manhattan, I have no idea where I can have a reception in Manhattan for like 100-110pp.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
How about Water's Edge in Long Island City? You can have your ceremony in Queens, go right into Manhattan for your pictures then come right over the 59th Street bridge for your reception. It's on the water overlooking Manhattan.Another good place to check out is Giando's in Brooklyn (Kent Avenue).
Good Luck!

Check out the Manhattan Club, it's above Rosie O'Grady's in Manhattan on 52nd St and 8th Ave. It's really nice and I believe can accomodate 110 people. My friend had her wedding there.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
You can definitely have your reception in the winter on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for under $100 pp almost anywhere on LI (with a few exceptions, obviously). If you are willing to see your FH before the wedding and take pictures then, or have your ceremony in the morning and then have a few hours between the ceremony and reception to take pictures in the city, traveling will not be an issue. You will also be able to find a place in the city for $100 pp or less, but it will be a little more difficult. I say you should do whatever makes you happy - if you have your heart set on a LI wedding and FH has his heart set on taking pics in Central Park, you'll find a way to do both. Research, research, research. That's the best thing you can do.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
Daisy---VERY IMPORTANT
If you want to take your pics in Central Park- check to see if you need a permit!!!!!!!
I know when I coordinated photo shoots in Central Park we had to get permits through the Mayors office. It was a BIOTCH!
I wouldn't want you to get there and be kicked out b.c of something stupid like a permit. So definitely look into that.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
I think you can definitely do $100 pp in NYC esp. if you are willing to do an afternoon wedding - check out the Central Park Boathouse - beautiful in the winter. And the Tribecca Rooftop which i loved....

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
I'm on the same boat but in queens or outer boroughs because in nyc is too expensive. I adore the conservatory garden for pictures and that is why i'm trying to find an affordable place. We are on a budget. we are willing to pay 50 pp or less with tax and gratuity.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
I originally looked at places in the city for my Feb04 wedding(had a budget of $150pp). I wanted to laugh at some of the prices I got--very outrageous!!!They charge for everything down to the silverware and table linens
Needless to say, I decided on a hotel in LI.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
I was quoted $120pp for a Saturday afternoon in June at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The place is gorgeous, and the food (by Abigail Kirsch) is supposed to be fantastic. But we have tons of out of town guests and couldn't find cheap hotels nearby, so it was not really an option for us. But it might be worth checking out.

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
I think all that running around on your wedding day will be exhausting. WE is very pricey, but there are other BEAUTIFUL places in Long Island City if you are stuck on taking pics in the park.I am an event planner in NYC and you will get a bigger bang for your buck if you have your reception at a restaurant. There is also a beautiful space in Central Park that does weddings. Check out www.locationsmagazine.com

Re: Trying to decide on LI or NYC reception
As far as permit for Central Park. I have to check with my friend and she went to Aruba for 2 weeks (lucky her) so I have to find out when she gets back - but I think you only need a permit for parts of Central Park. And personally I don't see why - it's a free park and people walk into it and all over it every day. Why weddings need a permit?
I'll let you know.
