Home Owners Insurance
Who does everyone have? And what do I need to have together to get it? We are closing soon and I need to get our insurance in order.

Re: Home Owners Insurance
HI! We used State Farm Ins. Def. shop around, but I found them to have the best quote. All I needed was the Sq footage of the house. They were very helpful and had it set up in no time. When you sit down with them in the office, they will ask you a lot about items that will be in your home and the value. Example, CD's (how many and $$ to replace them) or even Good china or antiques (know their around about value). You will have to pay the 1st year in full, but then you can either pay by way of your mortgage or have it separate and pay (monthly, quarterly, or annual) by dealing with the company directly. We choice to pay it through our mortage. One less bill to worry about each month. If I can be of any more help, just FM me. Good luck with the new house. I know how it is, we are closing tomorrow morning.

Re: Home Owners Insurance
We also have State FarmIt definately pays to shop around.
This is a good opportunity to take an 'inventory' of your home. List up all your electronics, furnishings, china, silver, crystal, etc. You might also want riders for things like jewlery and furs.

Re: Home Owners Insurance
Make sure that you request a policy that covers you for full replacement value of your home. It may cost a little more but it means that even if home building prices go up you will always have enough insurance to rebuild your home. It's very important to have this.

Re: Home Owners Insurance
Oh, and you also need to know the year your home was built and things like-do you have a central station alarm installed
-do you have central station smoke dectors
-an attached or detached garage
-how close is the fire house (if you live close by you may get a discount)
- gas or electric or oil heating/stove/etc..
-how many stories is your home
Also, make sure you check the jewerly policy. Many have a very small included policy and it might not cover your e-ring and any other jewerly you may have. I pay for extra ridders for my e-ring and a diamond necklace that I own, plus I upgraded the basic policy. Just something to be aware of.
And make sure you always document your large purchases such as an expensive TV.
