Friend I barely speak to wants to bring a guest . . . HELP w POLL
OK, so a friend I barely speak to, but invited to our wedding because we WERE close in college and b/c I run into her at other people's weddings, emailed me yesterday and said she wanted to know if she was invited with a guest... she said she just wondered cuz it didn't say on the envelope but she was looking into coming and getting a hotel (cuz she lives in FL and the wedding is in NY)... and she said she's living with her ex-boyfriend now and wouldn't know anyone at the wedding. We're honestly trying to cut down on numbers AND she and I never talk except at other people's weddings a few times a year... But if she's coming from out of state, I feel bad - so do you think I should just let her bring a guest???
thanks!!!
ETA: she DOES know a few other people at the wedding actually... a couple of our other good friends... but 2 out of the 3 people that are coming that she knows do have fiances that will be attending.

Wow, this is a tough one. IMO, and I know I might get reamed out for this, you should always give someone the option of bringing a date to the wedding. That is just my personal opinion, so I voted that YES you should allow her to bring a guest.

I would tell her NO....Just say that you're very sorry, but you really have to keep your guestlist tight. Make sure you tell her that you still hope she can come because you'd love to see her. That's what I would do.
On second thought...I just realized that you wrote she was from another state, so I probably would let her bring a guest since she is willing to come from Florida to be at your wedding!

I only say yes because she is coming in from another state-a guest = a flying buddy and someone to stay with after the party..
who wants to be alone in another state
is she were here I would say NO

That's kind of what I'm thinking.... I want to say no, but the out of state thing is what's making me feel I should just let her.

I would do what my friend did, she told a guest that she has a specific number that she doesn't want to go over but she hasn't received all of her replies but as soon as she does recieve them and if there are regrets then of course she can bring a guest.

If the other people she knows are bringing people, I would let her bring people too. IMO it woudl suck to sit alone for most of the party...

I say just let her bring the date, she is coming from another state - which is another good point. Plus if she knows only several people that are coming and the majority have dates, she'll feel more comfortable with a date as well.

I feel that every adult should invited with a guest. It is not fun being at a Wedding with no one to dance with, watching all the other couples have fun.If the person is close enought to invite then they should be invited with a guest.

I voted for her bringing a guest. She will have someone not only for your wedding but also to come here from another state.

I agree- plus she is coming from another state- what about the times she isn't at the wedding- I am sure she doesn't want to do everything alone, I will feel sad if I had to go by myself, eat breakfast by my self, etc. etc

I say yes. A friend of mine who is coming from Ireland is bringing a girl she works with. I've never met this girl, but I would rather my friend has someone to hang out with while I'm busy.

I would let her have a guest since she is traveling from out of state, and since she won't know that many people at your wedding.

The only people we invited with guests were people who were living with or engaged to people. All of the other single guests know at least half a dozen or so more people. We have no b-list. Everyone has their reasons. Whats right for one may not be right for another. I have gone to weddings alone not knowing people and I did just fine. I know how to be social. I didn't consider it rude or innappropriate that I was invited alone either.

I have to agree with this. I've attended out of state weddings and went solo due to various reasons. I was fine. I'm a big girl and can handle it. What's not written in your post directly is the underlying problem. I don't think you really want her there at all. So, if she can't rbing a guest will she decline and solve your overall problem?

I'd say no. You WERE close in college. Its not like you ARE close now. I would just say sorry and if she doesnt come... thats one less to pay for.
