Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
Thanks..I just want to clarify..
Its the COMBINED cost im whining about.
Makeup trials so far have been between $45-$55 a shot.
Hair has been $55-$75 a shot.
Do both at one sitting and it's over $100 each time!
Want three trials to have good idea? Well that's $300!!!!
Budget went out the window.. forget food.
I got a trial tomorrow but either forgot or didnt realize I had to pay and so now my FOOD money is gone to this trial.
I feel so down
No more trials after this. I just can't afford them any more. I guess it's time to finally make my choice and just 'live' with what I get? That doesn't make me feel confident about the choice I'll make because I will always know my hand was forced on this.
It's the ONLY vendor type thing so far that I won't really have a choice of what *I* like. You can't SEE what the face will look like in their hands until you trial so it's like having three dresses in front of you and 30 hidden behind a screen. You HAVE to chose of the three or pay more to see another. If you don't pay then you'll always be wondering.. was the ONE behind the screen?

It annoys me that I *WAS* going to pay for my BM's hair but that's gone out the window too. The money for that has gone to trials.Sorry I know I sound like a broken record or a bridezilla whining spoilt brat.. but this is annoying!

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
IMO..I think its a bargain...especially if they come to us...I mean think about, you have to factor in travel, product, and not to mention time!! These ladies have a talent, and it's basically their livelihood...I've been to trials where I've had to travel to them, and pay more!!!! The makeup girl I went with (Oksana) turned out to be WAY better than some of the other vendors on here, plus her fee was less and she came to my house and spent 3 hours with me. JMO

I'll agree but what if.. like me.. it's not possible to come to my home?
I go to ALL my trials. They don't come to me. So wheres the justification?
I see your point and that's fine to pay to have them come to you for a trial in your own home. That I get.. but me going to them at THEIR own schedule because im VERY easy to work with and *I* have to pay how much?

why can't they come to you.?? are you that far?
ETS: maybe you can negotiate a discount with your trials, BECAUSE you are going to them and not visa versa....

i think if you pay for a trial and you book them, they should either put that $ towards the day of fee... or give you a discount for day of!!!! such a ripoff!(and not to mention those that charge the same amount for brides AND bridesmaids & moms for the day of!!! not right!!!)

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
I totally agree with the post above. You should only pay for supplies and a small fee for there time.. but if you book them all the money you spent on the trial should definitly go twords the final day's bill. esp. since you are giving them so much buisness.. with your bridesmaids and such.

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
I went to a trial in the city when I was looking for a hair stylist and I was charged $180 to basically just sit there and have her hold my hair in place and tell me what it would look like, I didn't even leave with a hair style. I'm sure she would have done a good job but she wanted to charge me $500 for the wedding day

$100 just for a trial? Who is doing that? That is ridiculous just for a trial and you are not even sure if you are going to like them. For both Hair and makeup trials?

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
I have been thinking about the same thing. Personally, I think that I'm not going to go crazy about this. I'm not going to go all over the place comparing. If I'm happy with the first person I go to, great, I'll book them! I had the same reaction when I called for prices yesterday, but I kind of understand. They are spending their time and products doing your hair and makeup, so why shouldn't they be paid the same as they would on your wedding day? I wish it wasn't the case, but I do understand their point of view.

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
I think that the wedding industry is overblown and based on fear anyway. People charge what they charge because they can. That's why I didn't go to a 'wedding' makeup artist. Lynda Lane's done weddings before, but she's trying to break into film and so charges the same for anything - $25 by the hour, trial and day of wedding. Her trials tend to last 2 hours, but she gives you three looks. She also does airbrushing fir $35 an hour. I was very lucky in that I loved my trial so I'm not going anywhere else. My trail pics are on my page:http://www.geocities.com/nsgraham/
My little sister/aunt (long story) is doing the hair - she's a hairdresser, lucky me.

I dont want them here.
I dont live alone.
We live with the inlaws so basically all our stuff and ourselves are in one room. There's only one light and it's not bright (I read, so bright light hurts). In my opinion its not a good place to get a good view.
Even if the light were wonderful I still would feel uncomfortable allowing people in my house. Moreso that its NOT my house.
No one is coming to my house the day of either. No photographers, no video guys, no makeup folks. All the 'getting ready' will be done at the hall.
As far as working down the price??? You'd think they DONT know Im not letting them come to my house? I havent heard a single offer for a lower price. Frankly I shouldnt have to haggle down on TRIALS !

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
On the one hand, I totally see your point. On the other, I guess that regardless whether it is a trial or not, the same effort and products are being put into it, so they should get reimbursed in some way for their time and work.I think if their prices were reasonable it wouldn't be such a big deal. My makeup artist charged me an insane amoount of $$ just for literally 15 minutes worth of work. Her trial was free, but I would much rather had paid her something reasonable for the trial and something reasonable for the wedding day rather than what I ended up paying!

Re: Hair and makeup trials are sooooo expensive!! (vent)
I gave up on getting my make-up done professionally. I just came back from Macy's on 34th and was so disappointed. Everything is by appointment only, and no questions are 'really' answered unless you buy something.Hairdresser will come to us, but the make-up we will handle ourselves. The trial costs are ludicrous. I would be willing to pay $10-25 a pop, but $40-150 is highway robbery. For what, so they can make you look like a clown?
We have plenty of time to practice and I have faith in my sister and friends to figure out the basics. I don't need to look like a superstar, I just need to look like myself plus photo friendly for the big day...
