Hall Drama.. Get a load of this.... (mini-update @bottom)

So most of you know my situation with my surgery and changing the date of my wedding, etc. etc.

So today I call the Swan Club to talk to them about changing the date to next May for a 'wedding celebration' since we are eloping in Nov.

My original BM has left, so now I get on the phone and speak to a different one, I explain my entire story, I had surgery and now expect to have another one sometime late fall/early winter, so I'd like to change the party to next spring.

He gives me some lecture on how they have been turning people away from this date and everytime they do that they lose $10,000 blah blah blah.. so I tell him listen I can give you letters from my doctors, and he is like it's not that we don't believe you but we lose money everytime you change your mind.. I was like huh?? I only changed once...

So then he tells me I have to call you back, about an hour later he calls back saying the manager wants me to cancel my date, and start over with a new deposit, I say why? since you already have close to $4000 of my money, he says well you won't get that back, you have to give a new deposit and start over and IF we rebook Sept 17th, then you will get SOME of the money back, but only if we rebook the date..

SO I said your contract states that if I cancel then I lose my orginial $1000 deposit, not the whole amount we've paid and he says no if you read our contract it says we reserve the right to sue you for the balance of the money due on the event (which we would never do to you, he says) but we will not give you a refund nor apply the difference to your new date, and oh by the way I am not even sure I should re book this since you have such health issues to deal with W T F?????

SO now I am totally P-offed and haven't a clue what to do..

Any suggestions?

That is so awful! I'm really sorry you have to deal with this crap! Did you go over your contract to make sure it really says that? Something seems shady about the way they are handling this.

If you pull out of that hall altogether how much would you lose? If its $1000, I would consider it - you dont want to deal with jerks like that!

What? That is such bulldookie!!!

I would go over there and speak to someone else. Go over this person's head and see is someone else would be a little more perceptive.

Exactly. Ask for the general manager, then try for the owner. And, find News 12's phone number.

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

I was jsut thinking, you should get out of this contract immediately if you can get most of your money back. I am appalled that they are treating you like this. If you only lose $1,000, I say screw em and take your business elsewhere. But if they want to keep the nearly $4,000, I would sue. It's not as if you want to cancel, you just wantt to change the date and they have plenty of time to re-book the current date. What a bunch of a-holes!

I would go in person. It's a lot easier for this guy to be a complete a$$hole over the phone but it's completely different in person.

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

I am totally speechless. His whole 'I'm not sure if we should re-book you based on your health' remark was not at all....nice, to say the least. Honestly, I don't know what to say or do except give you a

ETA - I would cancel this hall if I could get most of my money back. If you were to 'march over there' and go over people's heads, etc., even if they changed the date for you, I don't know that they would go out of their way for you on your day. Just my feeling.

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

First, I would def. look for an alternative reception hall. Then I would go there and try and talk to them again. If they still will not return the $4k (they have 6 months to book the date) I would let them know how dissappointed you are and how you are going to tell everyone how dissapointed you are. That includes anyone and everyone who will listen (incluidng your LIW family!). They may be a little nicer. Most places do not want bad press

I would head over there with the phone # to news 12...newsday...and whatever other media #'s you can find....tape your conversation with the jerk...and then tell him when all is said and done that you taped the conversation and will be contacting the local media...so that you can inform other brides of problems and heartache they have caused you.

Oh that's CRAP! I agree. Cause a scene and threaten! Definitely look into other halls!

ETA: Did you try talking to a manager or the owner yourself (and not through the BM)? Maybe they don't realize what a jerk they hired. If that doesn't work, definitely do whatever you can to get your $$$ back and RUN as fast as you can from there (letting them know after that that you will spread the word not to use them)!

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

Wow. That is really bad. I would definitely go there in person and ask to speak to the person in charge (NOT the BM).

Also, have a look at your contract. What he said about suing for the money doesn't sound kosher. I think you could just as easily sue THEM for the balance (minus whatever it says in your contract you'll lose if you bail).
Good luck!

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

Okay, I can't even believe they are treating you like this! Yep, definitely go over in person and demand to speak with 'this manager' person who insists you lose this bulk of money. If not, channel 12, better business bureau and everyone else you can think of. If you are out the $1,000 I would say unfortunately to leave it at that and then blast them on these boards and everywhere else you can think of

Isn't there some sort of deposit law 6 months or something or was that just for Suffolk County?

Re: Hall Drama.. Get a load of this....

Honestly I don't mind losing the $1000, but to lose almost $4000 is rough, considering it's not even my money, it's money my parents put down. My mother is LIVID, I haven't spoken to my Dad yet and I'm sure when I do, we will be going there to speak to a higher up.. This whole thing has left a very sour taste in my mouth with the swan club...
