Happy story - thanks to this group

Hey - just wanted to tell you all a quick, happy story that you're all responsible for.

A few weeks back, someone posted a question about inviting old college friends that they wished they had known better and kept in touch with. It got me thinking about my very first friend, we'd met as toddlers, and stayed in touch ever since, until about 3 years ago when we lost touch after we both moved.

That is so wonderful! I had a similar experience. I had a friend from when I was three till I was in high school and then we lost touch. We saw eachother on the bus last September and then lost touch AGAIN! Then I saw her mother and found out she is getting married!!! So I am going to her wedding and she is coming to mine! We got together a few times and our fi's met eachother too. I am so happy that she will be there cause we have a strong bond. That must be so exciting for you. I bet you feel so special she is making this trip for you!

This is really nice to hear. I also had a friend since 3 years old and we have always stayed in touch. Though in High School we both starting hanging out with different groups we always kept in touch on the phone. Well she was invited to my engagement party and she said yes but ended up going into work for an emergency (cashier at Riteaid)what kind of emergency at the last minute as she was walking out the door. My shower she was away and came home the following morning from a 10 day trip to Florida. Now I just received her RSVP in the mail and would you believe she said NO. I am amazed. I left her a message on her answering machine a week ago and nothing I don't even know what to think. She doesn't drive, doesn't date, what is one to think. So I think that is great that you are able to keep a friendship together.

Rachel..sorry to hear that your friend is not coming to your wedding. However..do you think it might be possible that she cannot afford the gifts that all these events require? If she works as a cashier, her salary is probably not very high. Perhaps she has not returned your call because she is embarrassed that she cannot bring a gift and doesn't want to tell you that. I would write her a short note and let her know that she will be missed, but that you understand...and try to keep the friendship intact. She may need a good friend.

We did get to enjoy the entrees...food was fantasic...!

Robs fam did make me feel so welcome...most of the women were in tears...and the men were hugging me. But I was torn since it made the absences almost seem more striking. So, I guess I will extend myslef one last time, at the holidays...or maybe an open house...and invite whomever would like to come...and then leave it at that. Family that gets together via xmas cards...isnt that horrible? but, that its the way they are setting this up. At least I have my honey. and his parents and sisters are great. and a home too...so all I need now is a new job!

I understand where you are coming from but all along since we have not seen eachother in some time now I always speak with her on the phone and in fact the next day after the engagement party she said give me your address I want to send my gift to you (NEVER RECEIVED IT) You know what I don't even care about the gift but my mother ended up paying for her plate at the engagement party if she did not have the money and couldn't afford it they don't even say you can come. Anyway I don't know my other friends who don't talk to her anymore say she is jealous because she never dates anyone and is the only one left not married. But we know eachother since we are 3 years old everything including money should step aside and she should be there. My sister say end the friendship if she can't even call you back and on her RSVP she didn't even put a reason.

A few weeks later it all came out - she felt abandoned by me. Although she could rationalize that I was getting married and therefore very absorbed into the wedding and planning my major life change, she was starting to grow resentful because I wasn't there for her like I usually was. And she felt threatened by my husband. That she was losing me, losing her closeness to me, being replaced by my husband....and that our friendship, as she knew it to be, would never be the same. If you 2 are very close, chances are she may be having a hard time dealing with the perception of 'losing' you...losing what you 2 have together.

Being a bride doesn't entitle one to a steady stream of royal treatment from everyone. Maybe your friend can't be as forthcoming as you can and admit things, let alone even see them in herself. She's the only one left not married, as you put it, shows how she is possibly viewed as an outsider in your crowd. Why dont you call her and tell her you have been hurt by her behavior but care about the friendship. (that is, if you do care about retaining the friendship) Do it without anger and see what happens. If nothing, you tried but please dont think that everyone has the power to set aside their issues or the desire to do everything we would like them to. Sometimes we have to be the bigger person and just because we are getting married doesnt change that. Worse comes to worse, let it go and focus on who is there for you.

Any feedback on best rates, packages and "niceness" of the people you talked to would be appreciated.
