Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

Anyone who has been to JT might understand this one better....so I'll try to explain as best as I can.

We have a choice of 2 rooms for our ceremony. One is the Penthouse, which is upstairs & next to the Dome Room. The other is the Oak Room which is downstairs and where our reception is being held.

Now here is the dilemma

1. Our first instinct is to go with the Penthouse because
a) It's easier for guests to work their way down (the CH is on the main floor)
b) It's a prettier room than the Oak Room
c) It's a bigger room
d) I was not crazy about having the ceremony & reception in the same room

However, there are a few issues
a) There will be a party going on from 2-6pm in the Dome Room next door which means there could very well be a noise issue
b) They said they would work with the DJ at the party in the Dome Room so that softer music is played during our ceremony time. But it's a party, how low could they really keep it?

FH wants to go with the Penthouse and that was my first instinct, but the noise issue has me worried!!! What would you do?

well, i'm really anal retentive about excess and unwanted noise, so i'd pick to have them in the same room.

like u said, there's a party going on upstairs in the dome room and u cant control other people's loud guests and the potential of loud music....

I'd be worried about noise issue too and would do it all in the same place.

I would too Janna. How are they gonna control what the DJ next door plays? What, are they gonna go from 'Girl I'll House You' to 'Memories'?

4:30.

How they said they would work is it between my BM and the BM of the party in the Dome Room. They said they might make that the food serving time so they end up playing dinner music, or they tell the DJ to start playing the slow songs at that time.

I had my heart set on the Penthouse, but I can't ignore the noise issue. Although knowing me, if they DID start playing 'Girl, I'll house you', I would have to stop myself from singing along and laughing!!

I agree. it's in the middle of the other party and i would be worried if i had to rely on the other party staying quiet

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

Well this is a tough one!

1st- Let me tell you I went to a wedding at the Watermill and the ceremony and dining room were the same room and I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE and I was IN THE BRIDAL PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My cousin who was getting married had to tell me... They set it up differently for a ceremony then for the dinner... Believe me!!! I didn't even know!!! I was like what happened?!?!?!

2nd- if you have you mind set on the penthouse because you absolutely love it, then just do it... They said that they would try to control it, and I am sure if you did hear music you can say something smart and make it a very memberable (more so then just every other wedding), you know how things sometimes happen out of the ordinary and you just remember that from your day.

Good Luck with your decision... Only 1 week left!!! EEEEKS you must be so excited!

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

One more thing though... I doubt they would be serving food at your time 4:30 if the wedding is ending at 6!! Maybe cake or something... but I wouldn't count on a long break in music...

Maybe I am wrong... but 4:30 sounds kind of late to start serving the meal.

Good Luck.

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

I would go with the Penthouse. I went to a wedding where there was a party next door, and we could hear all the music from the party (it still was a beautiful wedding, though).

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

How about just the CH up in the penthouse? This way you do get to experience it a little bit, but still don't have to worry about the noise. The noise would bother me.

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

It's really up to you but I would choose the 'not noisy' choice. There is no way they can tell a party (who paid for the place!) to reduce the noise. Imagine if it was YOUR party. They are probably telling you that just to 'appease' you.

I went to a wedding in a outdoor ceremony at a golf club. The ball pick up machine started to go on... OOPPSS!!!! We could not hear anything in the back. They rushed to stop it but we lost a good 5 minutes of the ceremony. I thought that was hilarious but honestly I would have hated if it was my wedding.

What you see yourself exchanging rings and hearing 'my hump, my hump, my hump.....'?

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

That is tough, I would probably go with the other room though, I don't think I would like having my ceremony and reception in the same room. But here's a question, could you have the ceremoony outside? I haven't been to JT but seen pictures, don't they have a nice outdoor area?
XOXOXO

Re: Help settle this ceremony @ hall dilemma.....(with poll)

I wouldn't want to risk the noise in the next room. If we have bad weather, our ceremony will be in the same room as our reception. It will look so different, they get rid of all the tables, make an aisle, etc. No one will probably even realize!
