Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

Hey Ladies,
Anyone know the best way to home clean a platinum angagement ring? I've only had it two months but I can already see where the gunk is gonna form between the prongs from wahing my hand and lotion, etc.
Any suggestions?

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

I use a jewlery cleaner called Conniseur's, I bought it in Wal-Mart for like $8, I clean my ring once a week and it works really well!

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

My jewler recommend putting Palmolive (or other dish gel) in a mug with water in the microwave for 40 seconds - then AFTER heating, place e-ring in mug for about 10 minutes and presto, nice and sparkly!

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

I heard to soak the ring in amonia cut with water for 10 minutes, use a SOFT toothbrush to gently clean the 'open ' spaces, rinse with hot water and then windex. I'm goning to try the amonia mix this week.

Right now I use toothpaste, then Rubbing Alcohol then windex once a week. It really works good and my ring stays sparkly.

Either way, make sure you rinse it good with hot water.

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

I use spic and span. The jeweler I talked to said to heat it on the stove, turn it off and let your ring sit for 5 mins. and then use a toothbrush to clean it. I never heat it. I put the spic and span in a container and use it that way. Comes out GREAT! I do it once a week also and it is very sparkly. I used to use a jewelry cleaner and find this works better.

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

My jeweler told me the following works just as well as steaming:

1 part ammonia, 3 parts warm water, 3 parts dish soap. Soak and use a soft brush to get any junk out. Rinse with water.

Works like a charm!

Re: Home cleaning tips for a platinum engagement ring

I was using toothpaste, but when I went to ge my ring appraised there was alot of soap scum.
Use windex and warm water and a soft toothbrush.
Or a jewelry cleaner.
