I know we've touched on this subject before, BUT
I am curious to know how many girls are paying for their ENTIRE wedding, from soup to nuts- dress, hall, flowers, rings, photog, shoes, veil, headpiece, favors, invites, up to the safety and bobby pins, with no help and without ANY hope of receiving any large gift from anyone (parents included)I know some girls are paying for everything b/c they wanted to, but will probably receive a nice sum from either one or both sets of parents.
I am just curious if there are girls out there in my situation- we are paying for everything- I am even paying for my parents outfits- and we will probably not even recoup the costs of just the catering hall. I am not by any means complaining, it's just a fact and we CHOSE to have this wedding- I just wanted to know if anyone is in my shoes.

Re: I know we've touched on this subject before, BUT
I don't know how we'd do all of this w/o the amazingly generous help of my parents. They will be paying for our entire reception (250 people). We will be paying for everything else ourselves.I give you guys a lot of credit for doing it yourselves! It will be a huge sense of accomplishment for you!!
And don't forget, you WILL be getting back a percentage of it as gifts!!!

Re: I know we've touched on this subject before, BUT
Mike and I are paying for everything ourselves except that my mom is buying my whole outfit, the BM's are paying for their dresses and I think Mike is covering the RBs(his nephew) tux and his dad's tux...we'll most likely charge the honeymoon but everything else we should be able to cover. Now with the new car and all its tough but we you know what we sit back and laugh at it all bc we know that when its all over we'll look back and we'll really be proud of ourselves. We come from low middle-class working families and we know that in order to have something good in life you really have to struggle and work hard to achieve it.So to all the ladies that are struggling and to you Jess...you're not alone

Re: I know we've touched on this subject before, BUT
sometimes I feel like a brat b/c I think my parents should do SOMETHING...I mean my mom works for the post office, she could at least offer to buy me STAMPS!!but unless I want her to wear a Conway special, I will have to purchase HER clothes, and shoes, and get her hair done, makeup, etc.
it's just hard for me to see the money leave, and know that it will not be replenised, especially when I want a nice home to live in...
I don't think it would bother me so much if I knew they did all they could...like fh's mom is probably scrimping and saving to do SOMETHING for us, no matter how small, but all my parents say is how I am 'too expensive' for them...thereby relieving themselves of any fiscal duty.

Re: I know we've touched on this subject before, BUT
FH and I are paying for every single thing for the wedding, and I totally understand where you are coming from. Without getting into too much detail we paid for things that should NOT have been our responsibility.
It has made me a little resentful.

Jess, certain people just really dont know how to buy gifts or contribute financially in a small but a meaningful way. Sometimes people think that they have to go big...but its really the small 'thoughtful' gifts that count. They usually go big and cheap.
I used to rant and rave about FH's family being so unthoughtful when buying gifts! We went through many disagreements and fights. I learned it the hard way...now, x-mas and b-days I buy small but 'thoughtful' gifts.
I try to understand that FH's family had it hard and thats why they are the way they are...
Its hard I know, but look at the bright side, think about how different you will be towards your children and what you can do to change things
ETA: Forget about them contributing something towards our wedding. Not that we expect it but of course it would of been nice...something small I dont know, for example limos or something...its ridiculous...
