I need to vent....

I am so mad.. My valentine's sucked bc I let nonsense get to me.. I live in a 2 family house where my landlord doesn't live.. I just found out on Sunday that he's coming to the house TODAY with an appraiser bc he wants to sell the house.. He also doesn't know that FH moved in with me and that we also have a 4lb chihuahua.. SO yesterday, insteading of spending a romantic night with my FH and the puppy.. I had to sent the puppy to my mom's house for the night, and move all of FH's things that would make it obvious that he lives with me.. I can understand that he was mad that I moved his things around but he didn't talk to me for the rest of the night AND slept on the couch.. To make matters worse, my landlord wants to raise my rent by $300 and we can afford it, but why should we pay more money for a 1 bedroom apartment?? Plus, there is an illegal apartment in the basement that he rents to some deadbeat kid who doesn't pay him rent and rats on all of us in the house bc he has no job and nothing better to do.. I am sorry this is so long.. I feel like I am going to have to move out of my apartment and into something more expensive and not as nice and it's going to take away money from my wedding fund.. and I just don't want it to cause anymore problems btwn me and FH.. grrrrrrrr

You may want to tell him that his illegal apartment is worth $300 and to get it from that tenant.

Are you paying way below what the apartment is worth?

I pay $900 it's maybe worth $1000-1050.. I have a big livingroom and a nice sized BR and an eat in kitchen.. but I have NO closets.. there's 2 and they are tiny..

and don't think I am not going to tell him that I will report him to the town about the illegal apartment.. he also has an oil tank that still has oil in it bc he switched to gas and I can call the Environmental agency and that's a $50,000 fine.. so hopefully he won't give me grief about anything..

I'm not on a lease, I never was, so I don't know what rights I actually do have.. I just have blackmail!!

i think raising the rent $300 is a little too much - landlords are allowed to raise rent 15%/year. No more than that - so technically - he could only raise it to 1035 - no more than that. Then he has until a yr from now to raise it another 15% - this is something else that you can mention to him.

If he does however finds out that FH lives with you - he has the right to raise it another 15% (i think) - bc its 2 ppl living and not 1 - but i never understood the reasoning to that.

That's true, he can only raise it 15%. We usually get it raised every year, but this year they told us that they wouldn't since the cost of electric went up so dramatically. We've been here 5 years and it's an unbelievable price. I have 2 bedrooms and a huge living room, no other tenants and I pay 850.00 - my place is worth at least 1600 around here. Lets just say I won't or can't move for quite awhile!

well legally - hes not allowed to raise you more that 15% - so put your foot down and tell him that!!!

I get so worked up.. I just don't need the stress right now.. Thank God, one of my BM's is a Real Estate broker on the side.. She is looking into new apartments from me.. I have to get the h*ll out of here.. it's just not worth my stress and fighting with FH.. Thanks girls for all the support!! xoxox Dayna
