If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

Did you on your own...have to request altar servers and the organist/singer???

Well thank God I called because I had to do this all on my own! The organist didn't even know there was a wedding that day!! And they told me that they can request altar servers but they probably will NOT show up!

More and more I am fuming about my church

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

When FH & I met with the pastor for the first time, he gave us the name & phone # for the organist who we had to contact on our own and advised us that there would not be any altar servers unless we contacted then on our own as well. I was not concerned about no altar servers but I've already arranged the organist. Who, of course, has her own fee.

Yes I knew that we have to call our organist 3 months prior to the wedding to make arrangements.

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

I am just annoyed at the fact that I was never told any of this in the first place! I am using a priest from St Johns and he was the one who was like have you asked about the organist??? My church never informed me of this

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

I was told that I need to make an appointment with the musician but nothing about altar service. I love my parish but I have a HUGE problem with the way they handle weddings.

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

My parish informs the musicians of all the weddings. they are required to play/sing them unless the couple requests otherwise. I am NOT having them play/sing at my wedding as I have friends that are musicians that I want to include in my wedding.

RE: the priest told me that they automatically schedule an altar server for our Mass. I actually have to call and say NO thank you as my friend's son will be doing that for us.

Sorry you are running into problems... I've never heard of a church not automatically hooking you up with those things.

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

the organist/singer was included in the price. we could request specific altar servers if we want, which we are, but i would guess that they would provide if we didnt have our won. i would keep on top. isnt it funny how we have to remembe everything.

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

Music is included with our church fee and I just assumed that altar servers were too. I guess I better check on that!

Re: If you are getting married in a Catholic Church...

Your parish should go over all this during pre-cana.
