Important photographer question--(Newlywed Advice needed Too)!
When is/was your final payment due for the photographer--on your wedding date or on album completion?And...what photographer are you using?

I think the final contract payment was due when we received our proofs.When we ordered our album, we had to pay for any extras (enlargements, extra pages) then, not when it was completed.

On the date. We're not getting an album though-we're making our own.Our photographer is Jonathan Hubschman

I feel like there is something shady about a photographer asking to be paid COMPLETELY before you even get to see their work...what incentive to they have to follow through (besides reputation)???

they have a contractual obligation to follow though but I understand why its disturbing. What photographer?

Although we paid for most of it before the wedding....the remaining $400 was paid when I picked up the proofs.

We're using Ed Collins - paid $400 to hold the date, 80% of balance due when proofs are in; final payment due when we get our album

Our final payment (can't remember how much) is due after the wedding. I think when we pick up the proofs.

We gave a deposit when we book him, then a little bit more, and then when we pick up the albums we give the final payment.

We have 3 payments...1/3 when we sign, 1/3 the week of the wedding and 1/3 when we pickup the album(s).

I believe it is when I pick up my proofs (or maybe my album) - still a year away so I'm not sure.I am using North Island Photography.

We had about 5 deadlines! The bulk was due when we picked up our proofs - then another chunck of change when we picked up our enlargements. Then a small balance when the album is ready.

We used Imagine.We paid a deposit. Then the majority was due the day of. The balance was due when the proofs came in.
I agree with the others, I wouldn't want to pay all of the $$$ upfront. Suppose something happened?
