Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

oops.... Sorry about that...

Couple of questions...

1. What did you include in this packet?
2. Who created it for you? Is there that will do it for me?
What is the cost?
3. How far ahead of time should it go out?

FIL's and I were talking and they thought that it should go out with the invitations. But I'm like invites don't go out until 8 weeks before. By one month before, they need to book at the hotel and get travel tickets or the hotel lets go of the booking? So, that doesn't make sense to me....

I Love you guys--don't know what I would do without this site....

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

I think it does go out with invites but out of town invitaions go out before the rest of them so that those guests have time to plan (maybe a month or so)...I think.

I sent out my out of town info with my STD's.. But being that I willbe sending my invites out in June (wedding's in August) I will re-send that information out as well knowing that there are those people that prefer to do things last minute...

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

I think it depends. We have about 175 guests coming from out of town & some of them are coming pretty far. Plus, we're getting married over Labor Day. We are actually working on our little newsletter now & are hoping to get it out by January (we're not getting married till August). We basically had three sections: thinsg to do on LI, how to get there, and accommodations. Personally, if I were invited to a wedding I'd rather have this information sooner rather than later. We'll include the little hotel cards & directions to the wedding again with the invitations.

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

I personally like to send all that stuff separate from the invites. What we did was set up all the out of town info on weddingchannel.com very soon after we got engaged and knew all the details and told everyone very early on that all travel info was on there (way before invites went out). Then after the invites went out, I pretty much just cut and pasted the info from weddingchannel into a word document, printed it out on some pretty paper and mailed it to all our out of town invites.

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

The majority of our guests (over 90%) are out of state. Here is the timeline I'm going by:

Save the Dates - mailed late November

Info packets - hotel info and also magazine of wineries on LI that my mom got for me in Mattituck sometime in Feb/March

Invites - early to mid July

Wedding - Sept 20

In my case most of the people have never been to LI and are considering spending the entire weekend and wanted ideas of what they would do and are bugging me for info already!

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

I sent a Save the Date packet out in April. My wedding was in November. I needed my guests to know about our plans in order to make travel arrangements, request vacation time at work, book hotels etc... I included a STD card, and hotel information.
SonicStef created an image for my STD cards and I uploaded it to www.cardstore.com and they even printed the address for me and stamped the envelopes. The hotel gave me info cards to insert.

I am also a firm believer that you should include matching pieces with your invite, not mis-matched photo copies of everything. So I had a double-sided direction card created to match my invites. I didn't re-send hotel information. 90% of our guests saved the STD info.

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

We sent hotel information to our out of town guests in advance. They were just broshure type things I made in publisher or print shop.

We then enclosed a post card sized sheet with the invitations that had hotel info and directions to the ceremony/reception site. These we had done at a printer for less then $30.

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

I'm not sure, I made my own save the dates and I'm doing the info packet. My invitations are by Lizard Designs and she is making me double sided direction cards to include with the invites.

Re: Maps, Out of Town Information, etc...

Like sheppy, we are getting married over Labor Day weekend, so we are doing save the date packets. I made them myself, and am putting them together now (although I better get my a$$ in gear, as this weekend I made a grand total of 5 ) The packet contains all wedding info that our guests will need to plan travel well in advance, as most of our guests are from out of town. I hope to have them sent out by January.
I took pics of my Save the date, once I have them scanned I will post.
