Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

This is what FH and I are considering.

Where did you stay? How long? Did you love/hate it?

Thanks!

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

We stayed from 9/3-9/4 at the Hotel Hanna Maui, in Hanna, Maui and from 9/4-9/10 at the Four Seasons Wilea, Maui.

The drive to Hanna is absolutely wonderful. We made the entire circle doing the northern rout to southern rout in a compact car. It was absolutely fine. Although, in the rainy season, I would have wanted a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the southern rout.
We LOVED the hotel Hanna Maui. It was over $800 for one night there, but so worth it. We were really able to explore the highway and not feel so rushed doing it. We really loved the small hike to blue pool and the black sand beach.
Oh to get to the red sand beach (we only flew over it - and this is apparently dangerous) there is a path behind the Hanna Community Center that winds down to the red sand beach. It has some sharp rocks there - so I would use caution. The Hotel refuses to tell you how to get there.

We loved the Hanna Ranch resturant. At night they serve wedge fries which are excellent.

The southern rout is really cool because you get to see the exact opposite of the 'road to hanna' i.e., the northern road is very lush, the southern road is not, it is windswept.

As for the Four Seasons Wilea, our experience there was not the best. We really liked their resturant Spagos, but everything else was a chore. I did not like the bed - it had springs sticking out of the mattress. I ended up sleeping on blankets on the floor.

There were a lot of minor annoyances, like waiting for our car for 5 hours - so they could get our camera, the remote for the tv did not work (to turn it off, other buttons were fine), they gave us choclate to make up for the 5 hour wait - we had not said anything - it was our 1st day there- they gave us chocolate to say sorry -well it was wassabi covered choclate and made us sick. It was just bad and there was other dumb stuff like that.

So we would not go back to the four seasons wilea. We LOVED kauai and the Lihui Marriott in Kauai. (But this is a Maui post).
Honestly, I would stay somewhere else for the money - other than the 4 seasons.

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

In Maui, we stayed at The Westin Maui, on Kaanapali Beach. We stayed there for 5 days along with spending another 5 days at the Kauai Marriott Resort. The Westin was absolutely beautiful, very tropical looking, but it was a bit crowded when we went (it was labor day weekend), so that was probably the reason. Other than that, our stay was fabulous.

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

We stayed at the Fairmont Kei Lani in Walaila. It was amazing all of the rooms are suites and the bathroom is huge! We had a great experience and hung out at the adult pool where they brought you fresh pineapple and cold towels What a great place and Nick's Fishmarket is the best! Our only regret is that we didnt stay longer!

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

Okay question for you all... especially those who have already been to Maui.

What is the better side of the island to stay at in Maui? (Wailea or kapalua) And why?

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

We styed at Maui Kai just north of Kannapali beach. It was a budget hotel, all rooms ocean front but you cant really swim there. For the money, it was worth it! Hawaii can be done on a budget.

Lava Flows....how I miss lava Flows!

Re: Maui Honeymoons - Where did you stay?

We stayed at both the Sheraton in Kaanapali (highly highly recommend) and the Marriott Wailea (would not recommend).

There's not much to do in Wailea (only one expensive shopping mall) but the beaches are beautiful. It's more of a resort area.

We loved Kaanapali...amazing beaches and snorkeling (go to Black Rock!) plus there are a lot of fun restaurants and shops close by.

Maui is a small island, we were there for 7 days and did everything we wanted to do.

If you can wake up at 3am, go see the sunrise at the top of Haleakala, amazing!

Best place to eat - Mama's Fish House (sounds cheap but it's not, it was the most expensive meal we had there but worth it!) You have to make a reservation though (try to go right at 5pm when they open so you can get a table in front to watch the sunset).
