do you think it's better to use a few votive candles or 1 single pillar candle in a hurricane lamp?

Either is good, my cousin did that and she had a spotlight on the picture so I guess it was one light..

wow, that must have looked so beautiful!

I think since we're using votive candles on all the tables, it will be nicer to have something different on this table. Although, with votive candles you can do a circle around the picture which looks nice too.

Both of FH's parents are deceased, so I'm putting a memorial candle in front of their wedding picture.

We're undecided about this one too. We're doing a memorial table for my Mom and his Grandma.
My friend just recently got married in July and did the votives. It looked really pretty, but I think I'm leaning towards the pillar. (Of course that means another project! )

I can post a picture of this tonight but what I did was on either side of the ball room there was a long table against the wall with a mirror behind it. The HWC usually had a centerpiece on the table but I asked them to clear that off so I could use them as our memorial tables. My DH side had his family and mine had my families.

I wanted to include certain family members in our mass but kinda in the background, so I had 2 vases of red roses used on either side of the the altar and 2 memorial candles place in front of each of them - my DH father and grandparents on one side and both sets of my grandparents on the other. The vases were taken to the hall and used on each table with the memorial candles placed with the wedding pictures of our parents and grandparents (I also made candles for other family members who were important to my parents and some of the widows were taken back by it, they love it because we remembered them). I used antique frames since the pictures were black and white which gave it a warm feeling. The candles were lit before everyone came into the hall and it had such a glow to it. It actually took my breath away when I saw my table with my grandparents photos and my parents wedding photo int he center with the candles staggered inbetween.... for me it reinforced the feeling that they were there with me. At the end of the reception DH mother was given the roses from his table and my mom should have gotten our vase to take to the cemetery (I wanted it place on my grandma's site - I missed her so much that day) but someone on my DH side took it without asking (lets just say she is not getting a thank you!) Each candle was given to a family member to take home, for example my great aunt took her husbands, my dads parents by his brother, my great grandparents by another aunt............ it held a lot of meaning for all of us. I actually found my FIL's candle in my MIL kitchen (spends alot of time in there) which surprised me.

Sorry to ramble but its an idea to toy with....

We decided against doing a table because my Dad's death is so recent and it's going to be difficult enough that day so we put something in the program for them.

that is a lovely idea!

FH's father passed away 20 yrs ago, so he and his mom both love the picture & candle idea.

I fully understand this point, my DH father passed away 2 years ago from cancer and his mother has still not been able to move on from it. It is like she past with him in a way. I made sure both him and his mom would be alright with the idea because of this. He said he was fine with it as long as it was subtle and I never found out if her really asked her about it but I think she was a bit touched that he was remembered. I even made sure his name was on the invitation and listed in the program under the participants with his mom as "in spirit".

Unfortunately when I got home last night my DH had the computer apart so scanning at home wasn't an option. I used the one here at work this morning and... well as you can see the quality is crappy. If DH has everything fixed tonight I will do it again.....
