Mid to late October Brides....

Is anyone else second guessing picking October for their wedding? When we picked our wedding date in August we immediately thought of the beautiful autumn colors and how much fun it would be to do an autumn theme with pumpkins and leaves but forgot about daylight savings (which is the night before my wedding) and the cold weather. Yesterday was gorgeous but today was so cold and I worry about me and my BM's being too cold and not having enough daylight after the church for outdoor pics! Oh boy, FH would kill me if he knew I was second guessing! Just wanted to know if I was the only one.

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I am October 1, so I am praying for a warm day with plenty of sunshine because we are planning to have the ceremony outside.

I really wanted to get married in mid-September or the end of September.

BUT because of my job I was 'advised' not to pick certain months, which were August, September, or May which is my busiest time.

So, October 1st it is! And I 'advised' my supervisor not to give me a hard time about my 3 week HM to Hawaii in October since I followed the 'advice'.

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

Not to intrude-but I am Nov 6 and I am starting to freak a little. We are planning an outdoor ceremony NO MATTER WHAT--we were going to get tent and decide like the day before or that morning (they said that was ok) if we needed it--perhaps we should get a heated one?! We are getting married on my grandparents anniversary and my grandma keeps telling me it was 65 & sunny on her day! LOL Granted that was 55 years ago! But I know someone who got married 11/10/01 and it was 65 and sunny too!! We are a day wedding so we don't have to worry about daylight for pictures, but I specifically chose this weekend because it is the best for foliage (so is late October) around here--a lot of stuff is still green by me @ least! Don't worry October is a BEAUTIFUL MONTH!! It is becoming more popular than the summer!

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I admit i was having some concern, especially with all the rain this october. But i decided to forget it and just be positive. You are going to have other thing to think about over the next year...don't stress things that you can't control

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I have to admit I was getting a little nervous last week when it was 40 degrees out but look at the forecast for this weekend, its supposed to be 70 and sunny, you just never know. Its a great time of year if the weather holds, but to be absolutely honest, this is Long Island and the weather can be horrible in any month of the year. It can just as easily pour in the summer, look at this past June....

Just hope for the best and have a backup plan.

Also, if you plan on having the ceremony and/or cocktail outdoors, it might not be a bad idea to spread the word about this to people before the wedding. I went to a mid-October wedding once where the ceremony and cocktail hour were outside and it was only 45 degrees!!! A lot of the women came without wraps or coats and were shivering even with their dates' jackets on......its now 4 or 5 years later and whenever I hear people talk about that wedding, the thing they most remember is that they were freezing and they wished they would have known ahead of time that it was going to be outside..... Just a suggestion...

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I would risk chilly rainy weather in the fall over snow blizzard in the winter any day.

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I agree with Nora on weather.

I picked Oct because my birthday is in August and I figured if our life long anniversary was too close to xmas my husband would kill me. So half between Aug & Dec is good ol October. The change of seasons, change of lives.

Weatherwise though I love a good chill. Nothing too major (40''s or god help us 30''s) Even 50''s are ok as long as it''s mid to high 50''s. I figure it''s perfect when the fireplaces are lit in the hall. I hope for 60''s at best. Still worst that can happen is a chilly rain, but I have an option of indoor or outdoor wedding. I bought a shawl today on ebay just incase.

Im happy with my choice.

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I am an October 3rd bride, and to tell you the truth...the weather is the one thing I am not stressing about. My hall has a beautiful garden with a Gazebo that I would love to use for the ceremony but the room is very cozy and has a beautiful fireplace so we can use this room for an inside ceremony so I'm good with the ceremony inside or outside. I actually thought about this when picking The Meadow Club

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

Sorry to intrude upon the October Brides but I just wanted to point out that this June it rained every weekend (almost every day) so all those June Brides who thought they were going to get a gorgeous day....didnt. But that is one thing you cant control! My cousin got married early september like 12 years ago and it was soooo cold we could barely stand being outside for pictures.
My theory in regards to the weather, hope for the best but prepare for the not so best. (Its you wedding day, nothing could make it the worst )

I will keep my fingers crossed for you guys as well!

Re: Mid to late October Brides....

I'm soooooo glad I'm not the only one in a panic over the weather!! We have had so many Indian summers over the last few years, I just forgot how cold late Oct can be! (I really wanted Sept, but it was all booked up)
Let's pray for 70 and sun in 2004!!
