Re: new car?

I my prius touring edition. Just got it 3 months ago..... spend 1/2 as much for gas as with my old civic....

what ever car you get, make sure it has stability control (prevents skidding).

also, get a consumer reports to find out which cars are reliable and safe....

Re: new car?

depends what kind of car you are looking for... we looked at consumer reports, crash tests, reliability etc... before buying

for a small sedan
Toyota corrolla and Honda Civic rate top, if you want a 'fun to drive car', Mazda 3 is recommended by Consumer reports... thats the one we ended up getting.... but dh's family has Civics and loves them...

for a larger family sedan
Toyota Camry appears tops with Honda Acord very good too...
we got a Camry which we love, Dhs family has had Acords for years and loves them...

not sure about SUV's... Subaru's are suppose to be good rugged cars...

Re: new car?

Anything Honda.

My Civic has taken a beating from me and is going on 110,000 miles (and it's less than 5 years old!) It's held up great and I've had basically no problems other than routine maintenance.

We just bought a loaded 2007 CR-V, too - love the Hondas! We love that car, too.

I think Toyotas are also well made, but I prefer Honda.

my civic had 200k when I finally got rid of it. Both toyotas and hondas are overall the darlings of consumer reports.... they are usually ranked really well. I believe only a few of the SUV models may have lower ratings.

It definitely is a consumer reports thing. the car buying guide is so valuable! I still love my very comfy prius... SOOOOO happy with that car!!!!

Re: new car?

My stepmother has a Scion Tc (the car) and I was driving it upstate and LOVED it ! ! ! It's made by Toyota. My dad is a mechanic and he likes her car because so far (in the 2+ years she has had it) only regular maintence stuff had to be fixed (brakes, tires, oil changes etc.)

My FH has a 95 Civic (he got in 2000) that has about 120K miles on it, if not more. It's a standard shift, and he was working in Manhatten for the past 6 years (he's now is in West Queens) The car still has the original clutch ! ! Honda's are great cars.

Good luck with your decision ! !

Re: new car?

My only recommendation is to think twice about buying a Volkswagen! Mine was a nightmare.
I would look into a Honda/ Acura or Nissan/ Infiniti.

Re: new car?

I think it really depends on what you are looking for. When I went car shopping, I wanted impractical. I'm young with no kids so I figured now is the time for impractical. I got an Infiniti G35 coupe and it's awesome. It is a really hot car but seriously, I can barely fit grocery bags in the trunk and it is horrible in the snow. I it though. It's really fun and it suits my needs for now. That is, my need to hang on to my youth! LOL

I also have a Nissan Maxima. It is a great car. Never had any problems at all and I put a lot of mileage on it (it's an '01 with 130K miles). FH had a Nissan Murano, Pathfinder and a Titan and both were awesome. The Titan was a bit of a gas guzzler. Overall, I highly recommend Nissans and Infiniti.
