North Ritz Brides-cake question...

Anyone who has gotten married here recently, do you have a picture of your cake that you can post?

When we met with our maitre'd to choose menu, he was extremely vague as to how the cake will look. He just said, 'what kind of cake do you want?' And when I asked 'what kind do you have?', he said 'vanilla or chocolate'. We chose chocolate. Then 'What kind of filling?'. Well, um...'What kind do you have?' We chose choc. mouse filling. Then he said, 'stacked or tiered?' At this point I said I really don't give a crap---stacked.

He didn't show us pictures, nothing.

How was your experience?

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

LOL - you just described my exact experience. I picked yellow cake, white chocolate filling, stacked, square and butter cream. When I booked they told me they have no pictures but I can bring pictures and they will make anything within reason - of course - crazy Marth Stewart type cakes would be an additional charge. The menu day - they were so vague and like you by they I could care less. I had all these pictures printed out of what I thought I liked and wanted and didn't even bring them with me. I cold care less by that point.

So here was my cake and I am not in love with it but like I said by then who cares...every now and then when I see all the pretty cakes on this site I wish mine was prettier but those moments are fleeting. The florist added the flowers. I heard it tasted good - all I had was the small bite DH fed me. Also, someone just posted her pictures last weekend and her cake looked a little nicer.

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

Thanks Niecey!

Your cake was pretty, now I am not worried about some terrible monstrosity being wheeled out! LOL

I think we will have some flowers on ours also...

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

LOL - You won't get a terrible monstrosity. I don't think NRC operates that way based on my experience wit them and my wedding day. I just think their cakes tend to be plain. I am sure if pushed they will alter it to your liking - but I bet many brides are how you and I are and by that point you think cake is so unimportant in the scheme of the 6000 other things you got going on. They really should have a cake book made - esp. by now.

I drove by last weekend and saw the fence! NRC gets nicer everytime we pass it!

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

Was that cake big enough to serve all your guests? I'm kind of disappointed since their cakes look puny. I'm going to be very specific when I go to pick my menu in a few weeks. I want a monster size cake!!

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

I guess it was big enough - I had 175 people. No one mentioned the didn't have the cake (and my mom is anal - she is in the business - she would have noticed and said something to me) but I also had the full vienesse and I think everyone was hypnotized by that! People still talk about it and it is many months later!

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

this was drjenn10's cake. I think she was the last one to be married there. It is far away but you can get an idea of the cake. I think it looks very pretty. I am going to bring in this pic when I go talk to them....

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

I just got my proofs back and the pics of my NRC cake look pretty good (at least I think so). But my scanner is broken, so I can't post them right now. I thought the cake, while smaller than some I have seen, looked so nice - just make sure your florists puts some flowers on it! I copied a pic from the cover of one of the more recent Martha Stewart magazines with pink peonies and roses - so cute!

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

Oh - one thing I forgot: I let my husband pick the cake, and he chose chocolate cake with cannoli filling (strange I know)...well, the cake tasted SO gross - it was not chocolate, but more like a spice cake! Nobody ate it! So, be careful...I don't know if NRC messed up, or if their chocolate cake is just weird.

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

i'm worried. this does not sound good.

i am picky about the cake i want. i don't want anything fancy at all, just simple, but i want it to look like what i have in mind.

i'm calling bakeries to find out about prices just in case NRC can't do it. i really don't want to spend more money on this...

Re: North Ritz Brides-cake question...

Thanks for posting the pic of my cake. I was very happy with it and it tasted great. It was yellow cake with chocolate pudding filling. I also got the tartufo with it which I highly recommend.
