North Ritz Brides...cake?

It seems like most NRC brides are not thrilled with the cake. I am considering ordering one from 'the outside'...anybody else do (or doing) this??

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I was also thinking about doing this - but I dont know where to get it from - nor how much more it is going to cost.

Have you looked at other places to order from?

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I haven't looked yet, I know there are a couple of vendors on here plus I used to work for the New York Restaurant School and am still friends with some of the pastry chefs...I might contact them. I am not sure.

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I had the cake from the hall and it was very good -- yellow cake with the canoli filling serviced with the tartuffo. I can only speak for the flavor that I had though!!!

My cake was not exactly like the picture I gave them but the cake was beautiful --- just my opinion but I wouldn't spend extra money on a cake.

I actually started writing my review -- I just have to finish it and I'll post pictures of the cake (Sorry my review is taking so long).

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I plan on ordering a cake from the outside. I don't understand why they can't make decent cakes! (Not talking about the taste but rather the look.) I want a cake that looks beautiful and artistic with some stuff going on on it, not just a plain white stacked cake. I think it will cost me about $750. for 150 people. Not sure who I am using yet though.

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

If you are looking for an outside place I have a great person that I am using for my cake.

Jean Marie Patisserie in garden city (7th Street). His cake was featured on the cover of a bridal magazine a few years ago. His stuff is REALLY good - many people in town use his desserts and cakes for parties and entertaining. I think we will do the grand manier (sp?) cake. He can do any color and does amazing work with pulled sugar (which you don't have to do if you use real flowers).

I believe he charges either 4.25 or 4.50 a person - he will do a tasting with you before you order so that you can choose which one you want.

FM me if you want more info.

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I have the same question!! I don't understand why the so called stacked called looks so 'dwarfed' for lack of a better word--it looks smushed together BUT i refuse to pay hundreds extra for a cake--I did ask last time I was there if I could provide a picture because I wasn't thrilled with the ones i was seeing -- they said NO PROBLEM-you can get whatever you want-but I'm not sure if looks like that because it depends on the number of people you have but it still can look a little taller don't ya think?

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

Alison, I thought the same thing. I went to my friend's wedding on Sunday at PJCC and her cake blew me away. I never really thought too much about it until I saw her cake and was impressed. I don't want that smushed look.

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I think their cakes are too squat....they are short and wide. I want a taller, thinner look. Do I sound crazy?

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

after seeing pictures of the NRC cakes, we decided to order from an outside baker. although many of the girls here had lovely cakes, the NRC style of cake was not what i wanted for our wedding. the cake was a very important thing for me, i realize for most brides, it is not. so i was willing to spend a lot of money to have a cake custom made/baked.

i knew what kind of cake i wanted, so i contacted many LI bakeries for quotes. some were much higher and some were much much lower. i chose the bakery in between.
i have been working with iliona lowenthal from sugar sugar bakery in westhampton beach. she has been truly amazing. she is very knowledgeable about cakes & is just a very sweet and supportive vendor to work with. she will also be making a grooms cake (a surprise for FH) for us. i just love her!

our cake will be a carrot cake, with cinnamon, raisins, cranberries, walnuts and pecans and a white chocolate cream cheese filling with a flavored & tinted (ivory- the color of my dress) fondant frosting. the leaves will be marzipan (my favorite!!). i figured, since i'm going with an outside baker, i better go all out! NRC will be providing the tartuffo & mini vienesse.

it is a cake for approximately 175 guests. please FM if you would like more info on the bakery we used.

our wedding cake- we will have four layers and no cake topper (i'll post actual photos next week- wedding is saturday!):

Re: North Ritz Brides...cake?

I saw a similar post to this a while ago. For those of us that dont want to use an outside bakery, do you think the appearance of the cake will look more professional if we ask for the tiers in the middle to separate, When they are layered it does look like it was made in the Easy Bake Oven. Just kidding, I couldnt make a wedding cake to save myself
