nwr: birth control pills-new warnings
so i was on the elipitical machine at the gym a few hours ago, and I almost fell off when this story came on the news. They did a story on how some of the newer birth control pills have twice the risk of regular birth control pills to increase blood clots. i have been on one this new pills for the past 5 years and had no clue about this. I just wanted to alert you girls in case you were also on these pills. I will be calling my gyno tomorrow to get a new Rx. article

Yes I heard of this too! And if any of you ladies are on BC and smoke you should really think about choosing one or the other b/c you could really get bad side effects and an increased chance of getting those blood clots

hate to say it, but I'm rather suspicious of birth control pills.Hormones are so complicated... they do so many things, most of which remain unknown.... To tinker with hormone levels to such a degree while not knowing the potential 'off target' effects scares me. I've never taken the pill becuase of that....

i have to agree with you. Ive also never taken them for this reason, i get nervous with knowing im playing with my hormone levels, but some women just dont have no choice when it comes to BC and need to take them for other reasons.

Yeah I know for me, I'm pretty hormone sensitive but this close to the wedding, getting pg is not a great option (especially not with my dress). I don't intend to be on them too much longer after the wedding if I can help it. They can really mess with your cycle when you get off them too.

Oh, I know.... sometimes the pill-induced hormone changes are heaven-sent.... I have 2 friends who have femme problems that can only be mediated with a depo shot.
But, since I have no problems, and have formal training in pharmacology, I can't justify it for myself. I also feel bad becuase the general public is lead to believe that perscription drugs are perfectly safe when taken as directed, and sometimes it just simply isn't true.... and it takes 20 years, several lawsuits, and lots of people getting hurt before the drug is pulled.... Somehow I suspect some birthcontrol pills will go that route in the future....

Actually, from what I've heard, some reports suggest it increases ovarian or breast cancer risk, while other reports suggest those cancer risks are reduced by the pill.... (frequently reports show one cancer risk goes up, while the other declines). the clot risk is much more established.... ESPECIALLY if you smoke...

as a general rule, i never put anything into my body that doesnt belong there. And you bring up unfortunately really good points...its only a matter of time until woman start experiancing the unforseen side effects

Re: nwr: birth control pills-new warnings
Unfortunately I had to go on the pill for medical reasons which is not in my control. I have only been on them for a month and knock on wood have not seen any side effects but I will probably go off of them after the wedding regardles of what my Doc says b/c I don't want to be on them for long. I will call him cause i am on Ortho Lo which is included in this new study!

I also had to go on BC for medical problems and it actually made my problems worse and I had so many side effects my doctor said if I continued taking them I probably would have gotten really sick. I don't trust hormone pills, my body is already screwy as it is lol.

one of my friends on depo had a really odd situation, where she had to get off the depo shot becuase of side-effects, and she went on another birthcontrol to treat her condition, and it totally didn't work. It actually made her worse! And supposedly, this pill was supposed to be almost interchangeable with depo.....
yeah, it's really difficult to deal with these situations.....
