Question about reserving reception hall
I have a question about how everything works when you are ready to book a reception hall.Do you have to sign a contract and leave a deposit immediately to get them to hold the date or will they hold it for some time before hand?
I want to reserve my reception hall but my parents aren't coming to NY for over a month and they want to be there to sign the contract and leave the deposit.
Also, how much deposit do vendors usually require...like photographers and florists? I am sure it varies from vendor to vendor, but any general ideas would be helpful
TIA!!!

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
They hold it for anywhere from 1-3 days. When you book you put a 500 deposit down..Photo and Video require 1/3 deposit
Dj usually 50-100 bucks...

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
It depends on the place - some will hold the date for 10 days, some will pencil you in until you sign a contract. And the deposit can vary - I would think that it's anywhere from $500-1500 (unless it's the Carltun, then it's $5000).

I agree, it definitely varies, but usually when you sign the contract, you put down the deposit. I haven't had many vendors say they would hold the date for an extended amount of time though without it.

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
Most of the places I have been to in Suffolk want $1,000 deposit. Carlyle on The Green wanted $5,000.I am still looking. Good luck to you!

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
Most places we checked out wanted 10%. Once they knew we were going to cook, they held it for a week or so (until we got paid again!)

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
We told our hall that booking was contingent on our parents ok & the church ok and we sent them a refundable $250 check to hold the date for a week. It really depends on the place though. Then my parents left another $750 when we booked the hall. After that my parents received 5 installment bills so now they have a deposit of $10,000 and we pay the rest right before the date. hope that helps

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
Ask them if they have a 'contract pending approval' Our hall did though we didnt b/c our parents had been there before, it was given as an option. We still had to put down a deposit of $500 but it WAS refundable if we changed our minds.HTH

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
As for a hall, it depends when and where you want your wedding. Many places will hold the date for a few days, but some will not if it is a very popular month. If you really love the place and are set on a specific date, sign the contract yourself and leave a deposit. You can always cancel if something happens. My band held the date until I could hear them at a showcase which was like 3 weeks later.

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
If you're not planning on getting married until 2007 you'll most likely be able to get the date you want at the place you want.Of the places I checked, some would pencil you in to give you a week to think about it, others wouldn't hold it at all. I don't think anyone will let you hold a date for a month without a cash deposit.
Good luck.

Re: Question about reserving reception hall
Some places usually hold the day for 1-3 days for you, some say they can, but then if someone decides to book right then and there after you, meaning signs contract and pays deposit then you will lose that day.AFter we chose our place and date we signed a contract that detailed everything we're getting that day plus any additionals they threw in make sure everything they tell you is in that contract. Then we had to put down 500 deposit and another 3000 a month and hlf later. We have I believe three more payments before March which will total half the amount and then the rest is due week prior to our wedding. FM me if you have any questions.
