Question about St Lucia

I have been trying to figure out where to go for our Honeymoon. I have narrowed it down to a Sandals resort in either Jamaica or St Lucia. I have heard that the water and beaches in St Lucia were not that nice because it is a volcanic Island and the water can get pretty rough. I was just wondering if anybody had any feedback about the beaches in St. Lucia ?

TIA

Re: Question about St Lucia

From what my travel agent told me last week, the water at Sandals Regency in St. Lucia is rough, but the water at the Sandals Grande in St. Lucia is much calmer.

Re: Question about St Lucia

I didn't stay at a Sandals resort, but one side of the island has rougher water than the other. St. Lucia is very beautiful though!

Re: Question about St Lucia

I haven't stayed at a Sandals resort in Jamaica, but I did stay at the Sandals Grande and the water was not rough at all. We did go into October, I am not sure if that makes a difference though. I did think that the water at the Regency and the Halcyon was rough at times.
Hope this helps

Re: Question about St Lucia

I would recommend Sandals Grande if you decide to go to St. Lucia. The other Sandals is nice but the water is rough and you really cannot go in the water.

Re: Question about St Lucia

Stayed at Sandals in Jamaica (Ocho Rios) and St. Lucia (Halcyon) and have visited others on Jamaica and St. Lucia. While Sandals-Negril may have the nicest of the beaches, I think the Sandals on St. Lucia are generally a better option overall. Jamaica is so poverty stricken that you won't really want to leave the resort to do anything (except maybe see another Sandals resort). St. Lucia is a lush island with a lot of character. You can hike the Piton Mountains, visit sulpher springs, go to street festivals on Friday nights, etc. The Sandals Grande also has great honeymoon suites on the cliff with private plunge pools - I don't think any of the Sandals in Jamaica have that. Also, if you snorkle or scuba dive, St. Lucia has much more to offer underwater. Jamaica is considered to have a poor marine environment. Also (keeping in mind that you stay at one and have privileges at the others), I think St. Lucia's Sandals are a bit closer together than those on Jamaica - permitting you to jump from Sandals to Sandals much easier if you wish.

FYI - volcanic islands don't necessarily mean poor beaches or water. Hawaii and Tahiti both have volcanic islands (or once did). I think most would agree they have some of the best beaches and water in the world.

Re: Question about St Lucia

We went to St. Lucia and stayed at the Jalousie Hilton not a Sandals. The sandals are all located up north by the capitol city of Castries, not near the volcano. The hilton was about 5 min from volcano, our beach was located between the pitons in a bay and is one of the nicest on the island. we saw most of the coast on a fishing trip and unless the beach is in a bay or a cove it is rough.

BTW I highly recommend the Jalousie Hilton over Sandals.

Re: Question about St Lucia

I booked St.Lucia last week. We are staying at the Sandals Regency... I only heard great things about the island...Sandals is a fabulous hotel and whichever u chose, you will have a beautiful time.
I also have stayed at a couples hotel in Negril, Jamaica and had a phenominal time...

Sandals are closer in St.Lucia..
In Jamaica they are like an hr to and hr and a half drive.

Re: Question about St Lucia

I had 3 friends go to different places in St. Lucia and told me that the water was rough and one of my friends cut her foot on a shell...They all stayed in Sandals resorts, and all told me that the water wasn't that great. (This is hear-say because I've never been)

I went to Jamaica two times and love the water. We stayed in Ochos Rios and then in Sandals Royal Caribean in Montego Bay...The water in both was so beautiful you could swim in it as if it were a pool. We would bring the chair into the water and relax...my fiance actually fell asleep in the water on his belly with his face in his hands...

We are looking into Jamaica again, because we had such a wonderful time there. I have been to other places (DR, Bermuda, Bahamas, and personally I love the Jamaican people, and personalities, besides I think it is the most beautiful place. Good Luck!
