Question about the pill

I want to have a baby pretty soon after we get married. Is it recommended that you come off the pill 6 months before you try to get pregnant. I am trying to figure out when to stop taking the pill. My mom seems to think that the chances of a miscarriage are greater if you get prego right after coming off the pill. Any ideas or info would be appreciated. TIA

Re: Question about the pill

I would DEFINITELY call my gyno....even if someone thinks that they know on here, you should ask your doctor just to be sure! OR try going on the website of the brand of pills that you use.

Re: Question about the pill

The little paper that comes with the pills say: You may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days you missed your pills. Thats pretty much it. Call your gyno she will know best!

Re: Question about the pill

I don't know, but I plan on asking my doctor at my next visit, because it will be the last prescription. I want the best shot at having a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Re: Question about the pill

My doctor said that you don't need to wait a few months after you go off the pill. She said that as soon as you stop taking it it's out of your system, which is why they warn you to use a back up method if you skip a couple of days.

Re: Question about the pill

I just had this conversation with my gyn, she said to stop a month before I want to try to get pregnant. She also told me to start taking prenatal pills or a multi-vitamins that has folic acid as soon as I think I want to start planning.

I asked my GYN this question yesterday! He said off the pill for three months before you start trying (as in MAKE SURE you use another form of birth control during those three months) and to replace it will folic acid. However, he had my entire medical history in front of him, including exactly which pills I take. Your GYN might tell you something different based on your pill dosage and your medical history.

My sister who uses the same office but different GYN was told 6 months.

Re: Question about the pill

Be CAREFUL! There are some studies that show that you're most fertile after going off the pill. I have a friend who conceived 1 week off the pill, and I conceived 2 months off the pill, so don't go off of it until you are ABSOLUTELY ready to have a baby.

It doesn't raise your chance of miscarrying at all to get pregnant right after going off the pill, but remember, miscarriage is VERY, VERY common (I had one at 6 weeks and then conceived again a week later).

You should make an appointment with your ob/gyn to discuss and so he can get you on prenatal vitamins that will make your body much more ready to sustain a baby when you get pregnant...

Re: Question about the pill

You should talk to your doctor. A friend of mine went off the pill thinking she wouldn't get pregnant right away, and was preggers in less than a month. Another friend of mine went off and it took her a year or so to conceive.
It depends on each person, I think.

Re: Question about the pill

IMO I would not go off the pill until after your wedding day and it has nothing to do with having a baby. There are a lit of hormones in those pills and it can change your skin, emotions etc etc. ask you doctor what the other effects can be of going off the pill...

Re: Question about the pill

I asked my doctor this, and he is a fertility specialist, he said that 1 month off and then your next regular period you are good to go.

Re: Question about the pill

When I read mine, it says if you miss 2 or more pills to use a back up method or you could become pregnant.

But I would definatly check.
