Her mom could not leave New Orleans (a hospital pharmacist) so her dad of course stayed with his wife. Her parents are trapped on the third floor at the hospital (near the Superdome). The first 3 floors are flooded.

But they are alive

The National Guard has been bringing food and clean water and some people have been swimming to the hospital.

The rest of family (except her 90+ year old grandma) went to Atlanta to stay at her sister's house. There are about 25 people at the house.

Her grandma refused to leave her home. At this point she has not been heard from and is presumed dead

So so sad about the Grandma. I hope and pray that she is alright. The phone lines are down and maybe someone has her safe...

I really hope so. I am hoping grandma's neighbors forced her to leave or that she is spry enough to make it to the top of a roof.

My worry now is that the water mocasins and alligators will start the rounds

They are nocturnal feeders

From cnn.com.........Van Heerden ticked off the problems anyone returning to the city would find: 'no sewage, no drinking water, contamination, threat of rapid increase in mosquitoes, roads are impassible, downed power lines everywhere, trees, debris from houses in the roads, no way to go shopping, no gas.'

The water also has dislodged fire ants and thousands of snakes -- including poisonous water moccasins -- from their homes.

They are evacuating one hospital (not her mom's) since the generator went out

Her parents are still okay but they have to go to a higher floor since the levies are breaking and the city is expected to fill with about 30 feet of water

He mom calls each night around 9 p.m. from a cell phone. Batteries are dying so they are sharing cell phones.

Her grandma is still unaccounted for at this point.
