What Happens is Minimum is not Met

Just curious if anyone had any ideas as to what happens if your minimum is not met. We are getting married next month and had to guarantee 150. In my 'guestimate', I think I'm going to fall SHORT...by like 25 people

My question really deals with the part about adding the hall as an additional insured....has any bride dealt with this? Mark...have you had to add a particular hall on your policy?

I'm pretty sure you have to pay for the minimum you guaranteed even if it is not met. Check your contract or call the hall - you may want to start inviting the 'B'-list (if you have one) since you will end up paying for it anyway. Lee

I don't know if Manor East would do that, but it can't hurt to ask. A friend of mine had about 10 people not show for her reception at Fox Hollow. She had to pay for them, but since Fox Hollow has a restaurant, she was given gift certificates in the amount she had to pay for the no-shows.

I do think I have to pay for the minimum but I was wondering if the hall would apply the money to say a different entree or a dessert. I have a problem paying for 150 guests if only 130 are coming. I mean it's a Friday night in February, how busy can they be?

It depends on the hall. Some are absolutely steadfast in the number. They will count your vendors into the minimum if you don't make it on your own. That makes it a little easier, unless you have house vendors and they eat free. Some places will work with you if they know in advance that you won't make the min. Others will stick you for it anyway.

I would just call them and see if they are willing to do something for you or work with you in some way -- can't hurt.

It's just a matter of paper work. Most, if not all halls that we looked at had the same requirement. It's just a matter of making collecting easier for them if anything should go wrong.

My future brother-in-law was below his minimum and so he had to include his vendors in the count. I have to guarantee 120 people and won't get any discounts for vendors/children until the minimum is met.

I fell short. You still have to pay. But I asked the hall for more seafood during the cocktail hour instead of taking food home. My friend who was short at the Crest Hollow received the meals to take home. Every place maybe different. Just let them know now so you can work something out!

I'm having my reception at the Crest Hollow too. Did your friend have any particular complaints or opions about the place?

Florence has been my favorite -- along with Venice. Capri is BEAUTIFUL. You have plenty of time to plan, and with family there I am sure you will develop a fabulous agenda. Two suggestions:
1. If you are looking to cut places, out of every locale that you mentioned, Milan was my least favorite. It was similar to being in a large US city. Although Florence and Rome are also large cities, the history and culture in both places can't be beat.

She had the room to the right on the second floor. She was happy with everything. The attendant was great. She was happier when she saw that the decorations were still on the wall from the last wedding. She said in order to get the decoration they would have charged her more money. It made the place look nicer, more romantic. No complaints. The food was great, and HOT!!! I wasn't impressed with the cocktail hour, there wasn't much to choose from. So if you have an option pick a lot.

We have a modified Viennese as part of our reception, included at no extra cost. It consists of some pastries, cookies, cappicino and espresso towards the end. Our reception is on a Saturday afternoon.
