Anyone work in HR?
So I went on a job interview for a social work position that I really want last Monday. I thought it went pretty well- met with the Program Supervisor and then she had me meet with the Executive Director. She asked me for references but did say they a bunch more people they were interviewing during the week. I said ok and thanked her for her time. I went home and sent both of them a thank you email (which I do after every interview). I think followed up this morning just to check in - very short email...just stating that I was still interested in the position and wanted to know if a decision had been made yet. She wrote back 'a decision has not been made yet and I will be hearing from them later in the week.' I know I shouldnt read into it but I always do haha....I am just used to getting jobs pretty quickly when an interview goes well so I dont have the best feeling but am trying to keep positive. Just from an HR perspective...dont employers usually know who they are going to hire if they are done with the interviews? Thanks.

I'm in HR but I dont really handle that aspect. I would say though from my past experience being interviewed they usually have to sit down together and come to a decision. Also, sometimes its because they are waiting on references.

you need to give it some time, especially with the holidays. people are on vacation and important decisions aren't usually made this week!

ITA - I've been recruting for 5 years, and sometimes it's a quick hire and sometimes it takes forever to make a decision. In my organization, it depends a lot on the hiring manager. I try to push for feedback in 48 hours, because as a candidate I HATE waiting to hear back, but some people like to take their time interviewing, especially if they have a lot of interviews lined up for the week.

I agree about the hiring manager - that could delay the process of choosing a candidate. Also, they could've scheduled 'X' number of interviews over the course of last week, and now will be taking this week to review all of the feedback from the interviews to make their decision.
Good luck!!!
