Bugging out re: phone interview!
So i have strep, I've been running fevers on and off since Friday and I'm basically a disaster and I have a phone interview at 4pm!!!I am NOT prepared at all!!!!
Has anyone ever done one? I've heard nothing but bad things and I'm scared about that. Plus I'm all congested so I feel like I'm going to sound stupid to this person.
Is a phone interview similarly structured like a regular one?
ahhh

CRAP! I totally forgot about this!!!!I've only done one phone interview and it was pretty much the same as sitting across a table with someone.

Re: Bugging out re: phone interview!
First of all - I hope you feel better asap
Secondly - I wish I could say otherwise...but I find phone interviews to be pretty crappy and awkward!
In my experience, they have been similar to a standard interview in that the person conducting the interview will ask questions and you respond.
I know many large companies conduct them as the first step in their hiring process and most are considered a 'screening tool' as opposed to a heavily weighted interview.
Drink some tea and take a couple of hours between now and then to brush up and don't stress out too much!
Do you best and you'll likely have the opportunity to WOW them in person!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

right before the interview gargle with a shot of hot water, tons of honey and squeeze a lemon. that should cut the soreness/congestion for the duration of the interview.Good luck!!!!

Re: Bugging out re: phone interview!
i agree with all the above comments. they are pretty similar. one piece of advice - SMILE!!!!phone interviews can be ackward since sometimes there is silence and personality doesnt really get across. i think if you smile, it helps to keep you engaged and it DOES come across in your tone of voice.
i would apologize in advance if your voice sounds bad since you have been fighting the flu (or whatever it is). so at least they are FULLY AWARE that this is not your normal voice....AND if you do kind of mess up any questions, they may give you a second shot since you are sick.
but just keep smiling !!
good luck, JM!!!

Re: Bugging out re: phone interview!
FEEL BETTER!!!!I actually dont mind them.... My last job I was hired thanks to my phone interview (i did in-person too but the phoner was due to the other office being in LA).
You will be fine but just pretend you are actually talking to this person. Sit up in your chair at a desk or table, as if you are across the table from them and try to imagine talking to another person.
Questions are usually the same.
And like someone else mentioned, it might be a good idea to slip in that you are feeling under the weather.
It'll be great... sending you good vibes!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Bugging out re: phone interview!
I've done a bunch of these - they're a piece of cake! The best thing you can do is write down everything you want to say, questions, company info, have your resume in front of you. Since you're on the phone you can literally have all these things at your disposal. And make sure you're in a place that's quiet so there's no random noises. A strange thing, but it always helped me if I was standing up straight in an area that feel more like a work environment..i.e. desk, etc. Goodluck!!!!!!Welcome New Vendors
