can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

i really want the stork to visit us again (i'm ready to face it again after the failed one) and ideally stay home bec it seems i'm in the high-risk category and i'm contemplating if i have it in me to be a full-time stay at home mom and wife...

i only know one or 2 gals who is doing this and they seem... contented and happy.

how about you?

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

I never thought I would. For the longest time I LOVED getting up with a routine. Lately, I've wanted nothing to do with the working world, seeing as I get aggravated at human life and the incompetence of people around me.

I'm ready to quit. Honestly, I do a better job cleaning/cooking anyway.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

i don't think i could do it ... i'd get very bored at home all the time without any social interaction or whatnot during the day.

i would prob still want at least a part time job ...

but it would be nice not to have to work

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

Nope - not for me. I mean I want a job with flexibility so I can be an amazing and present mom. BUT, I am competitive and focused on my career as well.

My mom worked full time and for years commuted to DC (she works for the federal govt and briefs the president - she is BAD@ss)

BUT, she was ALWAYS there for my brother and I. She was on the sidelines of our sporting events in neatly tailored black suits, but she was there!!!

As a kid, I sometimes wished she was like 'other moms' (I grew up in a very affluent area where most moms stayed home) but now as an adult I am SOOOOO PROUD of her!!!

I wanna be just like her and have the best of both worlds!!!

I don't think I could ever be a complete SAHM. I would need to at least work part time to keep my sanity

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

No, I like my work too much to ever want to leave it entirely. I hope to stay home a bit longer than my company's maternity leave and then have a nanny a few times a week before going back for full weeks.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

I can. My mom worked full-time when my older brother was born, and then when I was born she started off (after mat leave) as part-time, but because I had health issues she ended up stopping. By the time my little sister was born mom was a SAHM. She was the busiest Mom I knew! With three kids who all did activities and went to private school she was always all over the place, even though we had a nanny! When we all got older she went back to work part-time, and I imagine myself being similar. I'll probably work part-time after our first, and then stop working when we have another at least until they are a bit older.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

I would want to work a few hours a week for variety, but I definitely want to spend a large chunk of my time with my baby. At the moment, the plan is for me to work part-time.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

I think for at least one of my children, I want to be a SAHM for a couple of years....maybe my first child...or maybe I would teach night class when DH gets home.

I don't want to entirely give up my career, but I would be willing to for awhile.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

as bad as this sounds, i have a hard enough time envisioning myself as a mom, let alone a SAHM! for me, i actually like going to work and contributing to my family in that way. my coworker is my role model - she worked really hard in business for years and when she had kids she went part time so she worked while her kids are in school and is home when they're home. I hope one day the mom-gene kicks in for me and i can be like her because she really is an awesome mom to her kids.

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

one thing that scared me is getting back into the workforce. there is still def a double standard for women and its hard to get back into a CAREER after you have kids.

so unless there is a NEED for me to do the SAHM thing (which i hope not....like a med. condition, etc), i dont think i can do it

but the little baby bug hasnt bit me yet, so who knows if i would change my mind

but for those in careers thinking of the SAHM thing....or just those thinking of leaving there jobs for a while....read the book 'bait and switch'....it was really an eye opener to me

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

Absolutely not.

I don't want to be a mom.

And being a stay-at-home-wife would drive me bonkers. Without having a child/children to care for, it's not like our place is so magnificently large that I would need to stay home and take care of things.

I need to keep busy and earn a paycheck.

Same here. I think when our baby is born in sept, I will work part time (probably waitressing or something). I don't want to go back to teaching full time. I can't imagine leaving my newborn for that long :( if I have to, I will, but I hope PT works out!

Re: can you see yourself as a full-time, at home mom and wife?

I would want to work either part time... or have a business that I can do from home. Something to keep myself busy and not just be kept at home like a prisoner.

For now.. I'm going to do maternity leave.. and then get back to work (maybe ask to do part-time for the first fiew months after mat. leave).

Financially, I will never have the option, so I will always work full-time.
