Changing name with Social Security

Quick question. I was going to do this by mail, but it says I have to mail in the original marriage license and proof of identity, like my license? And it says they want originals, no copies.. How can I mail in my license??

Is it easier to just go there??

just go i was in and out 20 mins

I was too! It was super easy to just go there and get it done...I went to the DMV after...that took a while longer

I was too! It was super easy to just go there and get it done...I went to the DMV after...that took a while longer

Ok yeah I think i'll just come into work late and go one morning. I went to DMV and shockingly it didn't take me too long. This whole process sucks lol

do they keep your marriagel icense or just make a copy of it? i only have one

I made sure to be there first thing in the morning and i was in and out of the SS office in less than 20 minutes! I would never mail anything as an original. Too much hassle to replace it.

I went there when they first opened and there was no one on the line. It went quickly. All she did was look at my marriage license and I got in the mail in less than a week.

Omg really? I went to Patchogue. I got there at 8:50 cuz it said it opened at 9, but when I walked in, it was packed. But my number was called within 5 minutes.

yeah, i went to the one in Melville - got there at 8:50 (opened at 9) and there were literally 150 people there. i had to wait about 50 minutes to be called and then the actual process took only like 5 minutes.

oh well, still not terrible

and it's done! yay!

I went to Melville on a weekday at like 2 or 3 in the afternoon. There was a bunch of people there, but I was called almost immediately. In and out in about 20 minutes
