DH's mother ...

thinks that i should attend their family's events without DH ...

i say hell's no.

even DH agrees it'd be stupid for me to attend their events without him (eg: if he's sick or whatnot and can't go)

oh, and when i say 'events', i mean birthday parties and other such celebrations.

so how bout you guys?

Re: DH's mother ...

i voted no.. but i guess it depends on what it was.

if it was like... evil sister in law's birthday... hell no.

if it was one of the sisters birthdays that i liked... then maybe.

but for the most part no.

Re: DH's mother ...

i go. and he goes to my family's stuff without me.

eta that's cuz we LIKE each other's families. If you dont really care for the family, i dont see why it even makes sense for you to go.

Re: DH's mother ...

Totally depends on the event.

I'd go with my SILs. Well, 3 of my 4 SILs... I don't go near the 4th one unattended.

I'd go if it were an event for my neice or nephews...love my little munchkins!

I would feel very uneasy about doing anything solo with my MIL She has 3 daughters of her own and she is not warm with any of them so she has no reason to be warm/kind to her newest daughter in law....she's a toughie

No.

Most of them pretend not to speak English unless it's convenient for them, which is a trait I despise.

So....no.

Dude seriously, the best part is, I understand *some* Bengali in conversation...so I know when they're talking about me.

And one day I couldn't take it anymore and blurted out...'I wish people would just say what they think of me in English. I've had to learn a lot of Bengali words in order to know how ya'll feel'

Re: DH's mother ...

I'd go and I have done this before. I mean it only happened once. It was for a friend of his family's baby's baptism. We just moved, so Dino didn't feel like going, but I had already RSVPed yes, and she came to my bridal shower and goes to all his family events, so I went without Dino. His mom, bro and wife were there, so I hung out with them.

If he was sick, I would go to any of his family's birthday parties, etc. I like his family a lot though. We all get along.
