dress help!

dress help!

So tomorrow night is my very first charity dinner hosted by one of DH's clients... I have NO idea what to wear.

The invite says 'cocktail attire' but the dinner is being held at a restaurant in the seaport (and not the fancy place upstairs that holds the weddings). It looks nice, but really not fancy- very seaport-like so more of a casual setting. We're going with 4 of DH's coworkers and their husbands/wives. One of his co workers didnt even know it was cocktail attire and was going to wear her work clothes.

So really I have no idea what to wear- I was going to go get a black cocktail dress but I dont know how fancy to go.

??? thoughts???

i think a cocktail dress is nice. dont you have a short dress that you have worn to a wedding? i dont know if i would go out to buy something for this....

I'd probably wear something more work-ish. Like I have this dress that looks almost like a pencil skirt and has a pretty short sleeve drapey blouse attached.

I would wear a black cocktail dress. Something short and flirty but nothing too dressy. Do you have anything in your closet that you can just wear?

I'm terrible - if I don't know what to wear to something I buy it. White House Black Market is one of my fav stores and can add some great staples to your wardrobe.
