etiquette question
Say you invited a couple to your wedding. The husband couldn't go, and it's about 1.5 hours from the couple's house. The wife cannot drive that far by herself.Would it be wrong for the wife to ask to bring one of her adult children instead of the husband?
What do you think?
I personally wouldn't have cared, but someone I know is in this situation and I want to know what the majority of people would think. TIA!

Re: etiquette question
That's a tough one - I would think it would depend on whether or not you were having other children at the wedding.

Re: etiquette question
Obviously this woman's child is over 17 if they are driving right? I personally wouldn't care..it's not like she's bringing her 2 year old instead of hubby.

Yes, sorry I should've clarified--adult children.

Re: etiquette question
I wouldn't care at all. It's a long trip, the wife wants to come and you the couple getting married was expecting to pay for two anyway.

Re: etiquette question
i think it depends who it is ... if it's one of MIL's friends who i didn't watn to invite anyhow, i'd be super-annoyed ... but if it's my family (or someone i genuinely want there), i'd be ok with it.

Re: etiquette question
A very similar scenario played out at our wedding and I was just SO happy that the wife could attend. The husband and wife and my grandma's elderly cousins. The husband came to our wedding mass but was not up for the reception (7-1am) so instead, an adult daughter joined as her mom's guest. Adult as in mid-40s.
I was absolutely fine with this - didn't even give it a second thought! I completely understood the situation and was just happy that my grandma was able to spend some time with her cousin!

Re: etiquette question
this happened to m e with DH's uncle and I was totally oK with it. The only concern I had was that we didnt invite all of the other cousins, so this cousin was invited by default. I definitely think we made some enemies there, but since we never talk to them, i have no idea!

ITA! It's all relative!
This happened with my Dad at my cousin's wedding. He and my mom were invited, but my mom couldn't go, so my Dad called my cousin's mom (his close cousin) and asked if Me, DH and my sister could come. she said ok, but when he asked about bringing my brother, she said no. My brother probably wouldn't have come anyway, so it was no big deal when she said no.
