france honeymoon

my fiancee and I are driving through the south of france for two weeks staying at various cities for several days at a time. We are going on August 21-Sept 4. Has anyone done this before, and if so, what suggestions regarding clothing, arrangements, etc. would you have? I know this is a holiday season for the french people and therefore some places may be closed. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
