gift for a 7month old boy?

in 2 weeks, i'm meeting my friends' son for the first time ... she lives in Oregon so i've only ever seen pictures (he's 7 months old already)

i want to get the baby a cute & unique gift. any ideas as to what?

i'd like to stay around $20, but i'll spend up to $50 if it's REALLY good. oh, and it should be something that won't be too annoying to lug back to Oregon on the plane

TIA

Do they have a favorite sports team? Maybe some cute clothes for that team? If they're going on vacation any time soon with their baby, maybe you could make a bag of baby items for the trip.

Think of something that's very 'them'. My one friend is big into music so I got her son some cut outfits that were 'rockstar' related.

When it comes to kids toys/gifts, I always go with Fun & Learning. It's not long you have a kids attention to play with a learning toy. Before you know it all they want are barbies, cars and buzz light year.

Re: gift for a 7month old boy?

As much as I love getting things for my son, his room just gets filled with tons and tons of stuff.

He has a ton of stuff, especially clothes he will never wear because he out grew them before they were in season.

The thing that is always helpful and never goes to waste is a gift card to babies r us or another baby store. I know this is not personal nor what you were looking for, but as new parents, it brings us joy seeing a gift card.

Danielle, you read my mind!

As for clothing, I would stick to things that can translate to various seasons (such as cute onesies). I, unfortunately, had to return so many cute outfits because they were too small or won't fit for the season (sweaters in the summer, for example). My baby is a beast though, and she's been in 6-12 month clothing for the past couple of weeks .

If you want to get him something cute, someone got Riv a doll that has a lot of different textures on it, a teething ring, and patterns. We go everywhere with it because it immediately calms her down! I'm sure they have a boy equivalent to this doll, but it's called Princess Sophie...we love it!

Another unique thing that might not have to do with the baby is a gift card for the new mom. I don't fit into any of my tops (boo, breastfeeding boobs), and one of my friends got me a $25 gift card to NY&Co. It was one of the most thoughtful and helpful things I got after Rivka was born because it made me feel really good!

Link for doll here

ETA: I found a doll made by the same company that is marketed for boys. It's an octopus named Captain Calimari . It looks so cute, and there are rave reviews from first time parents! Here

Re: gift for a 7month old boy?

Thanks again everyone!

These parents are 'weird' ... they're not sentimental AT ALL (she didn't tell me she got engaged until a month after! and they didn't even have a pro photographer at their wedding!) so i don't think a Things Remembered gift would work ... it'd be a perfect idea for anyone else, though

I LOVE Captain Calamari ... makes me laugh just saying the name! I think i'll have to order that .... and maybe another small toy or book ... or maybe even a gift card to Buy Buy Baby as you guys said

Thanks so much for all your help! I'd NEVER have thought of this stuff
