Grad Students- graduation question- UPDATE!
Okay so I'm graduating with my MSW this semester. I am 'walking' in May with the rest of my class but there are a few of us that need an extra class (we are doing a different Concentration) and that class does not end until the beg of June. Apparently, I was told that our name does not appear in the program since we 'technically' dont graduate until September which is when we get the degree. Is is dumb to walk in the graduation with everyone else? Like my family and DH was going to come see me graduate- but since I'm just going to be sitting there with my name not even in the program it feels kind of silly. Any thoughts? TIA.Update: So I spoke to the MSW advisor and she confirmed that our names will not be in the program until next year (since we are not done until June). She said the way it works is that nobodys name gets called out at the big ceremony with all of the majors and then we break up into smaller groups with just our major- and our name will be called for that. Thoughts?

I would go! It will probably be very boring, but it is an amazing feeling to get that hood.

Don't they list august. September Graduates? MY college did in their program. They even listed December Graduates who were able to walk in may.

This. I would speak with someone at your university. I am more excited to walk for my graduate degree than my undergrad as this symbolizes a huge accomplishment and the end of a huge commitment.
Its not like you are a class or two short...your ending in June bc of the school's class schedule.

Re: Grad Students- graduation question
This happened to my husband also when he graduated with his BA a few years ago. He had one class left to take over the summer and we were all looking for his name in the program and couldn't find him OR his brother (they were both graduating and taking classes over the summer). We found out later about the technicality of summer graduates not being listed. DH didn't really care about not being listed in the program - he was just happy to have walked in the ceremony and we have a ton of pictures.

Re: Grad Students- graduation question
Are you sure it just doesn't say that you will be graduating in the summer? That's what most colleges do.Either way, I didn't go to my master's graduation. My program had their own separate ceremony, and it was sooo much nicer and more intimate than the large stadium ceremony.

Re: Grad Students- graduation question
I had a class missing when I walked in May but my name was in the programsome of my friends had a fall semester left so they walked the following year, and I met at the graduation ceremony others that graduated earlier but technically had to walk a year later
check when ur name will appear - after all the whole point is to have ur name read out and walk the stage. JMO
