Re: How do you make your turkey?

i just made one this past weekend.

I soaked it over night in salt water with 6 lemons cut up and the juice of them squeezed in there.

The next day I drained the water. and put it in a colander to drain all the water out. Before preparing it i put veggies in the bottom of my roasting pan-- carrots, celery and potatoes.

After my turkey is dry i butter it up... i used land o lakes butter thats made with olive oil. lather the whole turkey up inside and outside. Then I stuff it with my stuffing (its a cooked stuffing) sew up the butt sew up the neck and bake it!

Love it. It is so much easier. A couple of my friends spent 80-90+ dollars and then they have to cook it all and scrub all the pots and pans. I spent 50 and I dont have to do a d@mn thing and the clean up is nothing, just the plates people ate from.

Re: How do you make your turkey?

My mom makes the turkey but I help...HOWEVER before the turkey goes in the oven (and this goes back to when I was little and my Nanny would cook everything), we dance the turkey around the kitchen! I have no idea why we do this, but it's been going on for almost 30 years now. Nanny use to say it made the turkey taste better! When we dance it around the kitchen the dog usually barks and then runs away...I have no idea what the dog thinks it is!

Re: How do you make your turkey?

Our turkeys are already made and packed nicely in the freezer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We cooked two small young turkeys because those are the most tender and cooked them breast down in the pan on 325 degrees until the timer popped. We put olive oil salt and pepper on the top and College Inn broth to baste. Tasted the breast meat and it was so tasty and tender and juicy!!!

Drippings/gravy strained through a fine collander and refrigerated overnight in order to separate the fat from the actual meat juice to make gravy.

I'm trying a brine that has apple cider and maple syrup. It's on thechew.com.
