How much to give for wedding
Going to a friends wedding from law school, we are not super close or anything, but I would say casual friends. He didn’t invite many people from law school, but invited my husband and I. It’s a Sunday wedding, and if it matters it’s a Jewish wedding. I really have no idea what to give. My friend told me I should give $180 since I forgot she was saying something about 8 meaning good luck/wishes in the Jewish religion. Is that a good amount, more or less? Please advise. Thanks

Re: How much to give for wedding
i personally never go to any wedding without giving at least $200. i think you're good with $200 on this one. if you want to respect the culture, do $208?im not jewish so i dont really know.

Re: How much to give for wedding
I wouldn't give less than $200 for a wedding. You want to give in multiples of $18. Since 18 symbolizes chai or life. , so you can give $216 or you can give $200.18
At our wedding we actually got VERY few gifts in chai (18). One great aunt sent us a $36 check and that was about it.

Re: How much to give for wedding
I recieved a couple of checks for 180, but from singles... I'd personally do no less than 200 for a couple.

Re: How much to give for wedding
I always give 100 per person so 200 for DH and I.As far as culture goes 18 is the numeric representation for Jewish symbol 'chai' This symbol represents life and virtue so many people give monetary gifts in multiple of 18 believing that it means a long life filled with virtue for the couple.
so 180 would follow that tradition.

Re: How much to give for wedding
I should add that giving gifts in chai is not a requirement by any means, just a little way to wish the couple well. As I mentioned, almost no one gave us out gifts in chai, so if the amount you want to give doesn't fit in to that, don't go crazyWelcome New Vendors
