MY PUPPY

STILL EATS HER OWN POOP!!!! Its so GROSS. She is trained to go on a pad by the door just in case we cant take her out when she has to go. This a.m. I woke up and found her by the door eating it. She looked up at me when I yelled at her and was just licking her chops.

When will this stage stop?! Does it ever? My older one tried it twice and got yelled at and never did it again... This one savors it .. Any chance she gets she wants to either eat hers or her sister's ... .

Re: MY PUPPY

My Boston did that. Whats worse was that she would eat others dogs poop too We tried the pills and disciplining her but she would still do it from time to time. She eventually grew out of it though. I think it took a year though for that yucky stage to be over.

Re: MY PUPPY

My cousin is a veterinary surgeon. She told me that dogs aren't disgusted by poop and they look at it as another thing to eat. So during the training stage, she said try to keep a leash on her and when she poops, pull her away from it. Unfortunately, we all have to work and can't stay home watching our dogs butts, but it will pass eventually.

Re: MY PUPPY

My sister bred her dog and we kept 2 of the puppies (they're 10 and we still call them puppies). The mother was diabetic and 1 of the dogs would always eat her poop cause it was sweet.

Re: MY PUPPY

I remember an episode of Dog Whisperer where they spoke about adult dogs eating poop as a possible sign that they are craving potassium. Cesar gave this one dog bananas and he gobbled them up, and it made his taste for poop dissipate. I have NO clue if this is a universal thing but just thought I'd mention it!

I was just going to mention the same thing- it might be some kind of nutriet that they aren't gettting in their regular food and so they eat poop to get more of it.

I spoke to the vet and she said its just about them experimenting because they dont know any better but that they will grow out of it. I cant wait!
